Job description

Role: Portfolio Accountant (Real Estate/Asset Management)

Location: Chicago, IL (in The Loop)

Schedule: HYBRID - 3 days/week on-site

Type: Direct Hire/Permanent Placement

Starting Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 (depending on experience, certifications, etc.)

A growing real estate investment client of Phaxis is seeking an experienced Portfolio Accountant to oversee financial reporting, portfolio accounting, and performance analysis for a diversified real estate investment portfolio. This individual will partner with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting, support strategic initiatives, and drive process improvements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounting activities related to monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles
  • Analyze portfolio and property-level financial results to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
  • Support investment transactions, capital activity, and cash movement processes
  • Assist with audit, tax, and investor reporting requirements
  • Produce financial and operational reporting for management and external stakeholders
  • Monitor portfolio performance and provide meaningful financial insights
  • Improve accounting workflows, controls, and reporting processes
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and operational initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, investments, or asset management
  • CPA designation or progress toward certification is highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and accounting standards
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple teams
