What are Pool Superintendents?

Pool Superintendents are professionals responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and safety of swimming pools and aquatic facilities. Their duties include supervising staff, ensuring water quality and chemical balance, managing maintenance schedules, and complying with health and safety regulations. They often coordinate with management, handle customer service issues, and may also plan pool programs or events. Pool Superintendents play a crucial role in ensuring that swimming facilities are safe, clean, and enjoyable for all users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Pool Superintendent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pool Superintendent, you need expertise in pool maintenance, water chemistry, equipment operation, and often a background in facility management or a related field. Familiarity with pool management software, automated water treatment systems, and certifications such as Certified Pool Operator (CPO) are typically expected. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective leadership help you coordinate staff and ensure safety compliance. These abilities are crucial for maintaining safe, efficient, and attractive swimming facilities that meet regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges a Pool Superintendent faces in coordinating maintenance and repair activities across multiple pool facilities?

A Pool Superintendent often manages several pool sites, which requires strong organizational skills to schedule preventative maintenance, oversee repairs, and ensure compliance with safety regulations at each location. Balancing the needs of different pools, managing a team of technicians, and responding to unexpected equipment failures can be challenging. Effective communication with facility managers and staff is essential to minimize downtime and maintain high safety standards. Additionally, staying updated on the latest industry practices helps in addressing challenges proactively.

Job description

Commercial Pool Construction Superintendent

Statewide Travel | Full-Time | Based in Orlando, FL

Build Landmark Aquatic Projects Across Florida

We are a premier commercial swimming pool construction firm delivering complex aquatic facilities throughout Florida and beyond. Our portfolio includes municipal aquatic centers, resort-style water features, competition pools, lazy rivers, and specialty aquatic environments.

We are seeking a Commercial Pool Construction Superintendent โ€” a proven field leader capable of taking full ownership of large-scale, high-visibility projects.

This is not an entry-level superintendent role. We are looking for a confident, decisive leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and can drive projects to completion with authority, professionalism, and accountability.

The Role

The Superintendent serves as the final field authority on assigned projects and is on-site Monday through Friday for the full duration of construction. This role is primarily traveling, with projects located throughout Florida and occasionally out of state.

You will partner directly with the Project Manager while independently commanding field execution. You will represent our company to General Contractors, Owners, inspectors, and subcontractors, maintaining professionalism and strong working relationships at all times.

Key Leadership Responsibilities
  • Provide full on-site leadership and operational control of commercial pool construction projects
  • Lead, mentor, and develop field crews and assistant superintendents
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors to maintain schedule integrity
  • Drive project execution to meet or exceed schedule milestones
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain budget performance
  • Conduct and lead site meetings with GCs and ownership groups
  • Enforce strict safety compliance and OSHA standards
  • Maintain high-level quality control throughout all phases of construction
  • Oversee field documentation including:
  • Serve as a working superintendent when required
  • Train and develop new field personnel
What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • 5+ years as a Commercial Construction Superintendent

  • Experience managing complex commercial projects from start to finish

  • Aquatic construction experience strongly preferred

  • OSHA 30 Certified

  • Strong command of grades, elevations, layout, and field accuracy

  • Experience operating heavy equipment

  • Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, Autodesk, or similar)

  • Advanced blueprint and specification interpretation skills

  • Exceptional leadership presence and decision-making ability

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High level of organization and accountability

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and actively work in the field

  • Reliable personal transportation

  • Willingness to travel statewide and occasionally beyond

What Sets This Role Apart
  • You will lead specialized, high-profile aquatic projects โ€” not repetitive build-outs.
  • You will have autonomy and authority in the field.
  • You will work with a company that values experienced leaders and rewards performance.
  • You will be part of a growing firm with long-term opportunity and ownership participation.
Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive and performance-driven compensation package:

  • Performance and job-based bonuses
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Basic life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Paid Time Off
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Vehicle allowance

If you are a seasoned Superintendent who takes pride in running disciplined, high-quality jobs and wants to build complex aquatic facilities across Florida, we want to speak with you.

You should be proficient in:

  • Equipment Troubleshooting
  • Excavator Operation
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification (OSHA 10)
  • Construction Site Installation
  • Field Measurements
  • Tape Measure Reading
  • Heavy Material Handling
  • Finish and Rough Carpentry
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Basic Computer Skills
