Job description

Job Title:  Asphalt Plant Operator
Location: Hampton, VA


Department: Manufacturing
Reports to: Plant Superintendent

Major Role and Purpose

  • Operates asphalt plant to batch, crush and/or segregate materials used in construction.
  • Assist with assembling, adjusting, maintaining, repairing and disassembling plant equipment as needed.

Description of Duties:

  • Moves controls to heat, dry, mix ingredients to produce asphalt paving materials.
  • Control weighing, feeding, crushing and sifting machinery.
  • Observes gauges, dials and operation of machinery to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Basic knowledge regarding the use of computers in plant operation.
  • May repair and/or make adjustments to the machinery.
  • Uses various hand tools.
  • Basic mechanical skills to assist with plant maintenance.
  • Oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to equipment.
  • Yard maintenance.
  • Travel to and from the different plants.
  • Monitors the activity within the site.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma / GED.

Work Experience:

  • Previous Construction / Manufacturing / Plant Operator experience preferred. 

Physical Demands:

  • Job requires the following motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching and squatting.
  • Walking or standing may occupy the entire day.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
  • Overtime work is required.
  • Valid Driver's License with transportation to and from job sites.
