Job description

Seeking Plant Operators to fill 90-day contract to hire openings in the Stony Creek, VA area - about 21 miles south of Petersburg, VA. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and expand on plant experience you already have - looking for at least 6 months to 1 year of manufacturing or plant operating experience.


12-hour shifts 7am - 7pm

Days and nights - every 28 days you rotation from days to nights

Work schedule is 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 3 off

Pay rate on contract is $20.00 hour but will increase upon being hired on by the company


The position is operating a plant using PLC controls adjusting settings on plant feed rates, control dryer temperatures, monitor pumping and conveyor systems to ensure all equipment runs continuously.  Will perform visual inspections on equipment checking for correct flows, verify all equipment is running, report and assist in getting equipment back up and running, maintain equipment settings, clearing blockages such as un-sanding clogged lines, collection of samples, operate a skid steer and rubber tire loader to supply feed to the plant and housekeeping. 


Job Description

  1. Observes all government and company safety rules and follows safe working procedures at all times. Promotes safety throughout the organization.
  2. Monitors the operation utilizing a PLC computer screen and visual in plant examination.
  3. Records data in computer spreadsheets, log sheets, check lists, etc.
  4. Performs routine and breakdown maintenance as appropriate and assists maintenance personnel as required.
  5. Utilizes various hand tools, instruments, gauges, etc.
  6. Performs clean up tasks including shoveling, washing down equipment and sweeping to maintain plant housekeeping.
  7. Operates mobile equipment including front end loader, forklift and skid steer loader.
  8. Collects time weighted samples and samples for assay.
  9. Performs basic math calculations.
  10. Assists in training other employees.
  11. Periodically reviews all applicable work instructions as a refresher and suggests ideas for improvement to Shift Supervisor.
  12. Performs other duties to support site operations as directed by departmental or area supervision to include various forms of manual labor (sorting large rocks out of the sand piles or other areas to keep debris clear of the equipment.
