Job description

The Deli/Pizza Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, preparing and serving deli products, maintaining a clean and organized deli area, and adhering to food safety standards. This position requires the candidate to be 18 years of age or older due to the operation of certain equipment.

Customer Service:

  • Greet customers warmly and assist them with their deli selections.
  • Answer customer inquiries about deli products, ingredients, and preparation methods.
  • Handle special requests and custom orders efficiently and accurately.

Food Preparation and Service:

  • Slice, cut, weigh, and package various deli meats, cheeses, and prepared foods.
  • Prepare daily pizza orders and displays.
  • Prepare sandwiches, salads, and other deli items according to established recipes and customer preferences.
  • Ensure all deli products are presented attractively and are properly labeled with prices and ingredients.

Safety and Sanitation:

  • Follow all food safety guidelines and store policies to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Clean and sanitize deli equipment, counters, and utensils regularly.
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of deli products to prevent spoilage and waste.

Inventory and Stock Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels and notify the Deli Manager when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Stock and replenish deli cases and displays as needed.
  • Assist with inventory counts and maintaining accurate records.

Equipment Operation:

  • Safely operate deli equipment such as slicers, ovens, and scales.
  • Knowledge of pizza ovens.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other deli associates and store staff to ensure efficient operations.
  • Assist with training new deli associates as required.
  • Support other departments as needed, especially during peak hours.

Compliance:

  • Adhere to all store policies and procedures, including those related to safety, sanitation, and food handling.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding food safety and health standards.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a deli, food service, or retail environment is a plus.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.  Food handler’s certification preferable.

 Working Conditions:

  • This position requires standing for extended periods.
  • May involve lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds.
  • Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on store needs.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Heavy lifting, bending & stooping.
