What does a Pipeline Integrity Engineer do?

A Pipeline Integrity Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of pipelines that transport oil, gas, or other materials. Their main tasks include monitoring pipeline conditions, assessing risks, and implementing maintenance or repair strategies to prevent leaks, corrosion, or failures. They also analyze data from inspections, use specialized software and tools, and comply with industry regulations and safety standards. By doing so, Pipeline Integrity Engineers help protect the environment, public safety, and company assets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Pipeline Integrity Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pipeline Integrity Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering (typically mechanical, civil, or materials), knowledge of pipeline design and corrosion principles, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with integrity management software, inspection tools (like ultrasonic testing), and certifications such as API 1169 or NACE CP are commonly required.
