Under the supervision of the department supervisor/manager, the Respiratory Therapy Apprentice will function as a trainee and perform targeted rounding in active patient areas to recover assets for processing and redistribution. They will support Respiratory Therapy in many clinical activities under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.This roleallows forample opportunitiesto experience a wide range of patient populations and different patient care activities performed by Respiratory Therapists.

This is a great intro opportunity to gain experience and see the role firsthand as you will complete similar duties as the respiratory techs.Here, youcangrow withinClevelandClinic and potentially earn a scholarship to further your education in this fieldand become certified.

A caregiver in this position worksFriday and Saturday from 3:00PM - 7:00PM or Saturday and Sunday from 7:00AM - 3:00PM. Days will alternateforeach scheduled set.

In order tobe eligible for this role, this caregiver must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Clean, deliver,evaluateandinspectspecified medical devices.

  • Document work activity in an electronic database.

  • Follow up andassistwith administrative duties.

  • Stockand takeinventory of Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies.

  • Operate laboratory equipment withinscopeofrole.

  • Perform EKGs.

  • Record vital signs including pulse oximetry spot checks.

  • Assist Respiratory Therapists with relaying new or urgent orders.

  • Comply withthe medical center's attendance standards.

  • Attend and Achieve 100% attendance at all mandatory in-service programs, both departmental and hospital wide.

  • Complete mandatory education and trainingin order tomaintainorganization anddepartmentspecific competencies and requirements.

  • Maintain good standing in an approved Respiratory Therapy program with full completion in one year.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a strong background in Math and Science

  • Enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program

  • Maintain good standing in an approved Respiratory Therapy program with full completion in one year

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Prior healthcare experience


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to walk long distances while pushing a cart of equipment/supplies.

  • Must be able to lift equipment in excess of 35 lbs.

  • Push/pull loaded carts of equipment in excess of 100 lbs.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required by department.
