Job description

Designs and develops Houston ISD curriculum for Kindergarten through 5th grade Reading Language Arts, including Science of Reading-aligned instruction. Emphasizes creation of high-quality, teacher-facing instructional materials, including slide decks, Demonstrations of Learning (DOLs), literacy activities, and differentiated assignments aligned to daily learning objectives to support effective classroom implementation.

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 3 years teaching or curriculum experience in elementary literacy

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Software Oracle SAP Microsoft Office Other: Science of Reading, structured literacy, curriculum design Equipment Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Level 1-No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Designs and develops high-quality, TEKS-alignedK-5 RLAcurriculum within the district's instructional framework, including daily lesson materials, assessments(e.g., daily, formative, and summative), and scaffolded supports.
  2. Creates differentiated literacy materials to support diverse learners, including scaffolds for reading comprehension and written expression
  3. Ensures alignment to TEKS and best practices in secondary literacy instruction
  4. Collaborates in PLCs/brain trust sessions and iterates deliverables to refine curriculum, ensure clarity, and improve instructional effectiveness
  5. Ensures curriculum is rigorous, coherent, and actionable for teachers, and continuously improves materials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes.
  6. Participate in professional learning to internalize standards and strengthen literacy curriculum design practicesmaterials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes.
