SALARY RANGE: 65.58 - 101.64 HOURLY
General Summary:
Registered Nurse that provides professional nursing care, education, and outpatient testing, including limited OB ultrasounds, for the pregnant patient in the perinatal testing unit. This position works under the clinical direction of the Maternal Fetal Medicine service. It shares a dual reporting structure with Nursing and requires yearly competencies.
Responsibilities:
1. Limited OB ultrasounds / Biophysical Profiles• Provide appropriate patient education regarding procedure, its purpose and its limitations• Assess the results of the ultrasound• Explain findings to the patient as indicated• Communicate findings to the Maternal Fetal Medicine physician according to procedure• Document ultrasound findings in the patient's HER according to policy
2. Assessment of pelvic anatomy and landmarks • Describe fetal development and document• Conduct a second and third trimester uterine survey, including fetal cardiac activity, fetal presentation and placenta location• Assess for amniotic fluid volume and amniotic fluid index• Uses appropriate ultrasound techniques for evaluation of fetal well-being (BPP and modified BPP)
3. Perform non-stress tests to determine fetal health• Measure fetal heart rate in response to fetal movement• Evaluate electronic fetal monitoring • Identify reactivity using NST criteria• Recognition of non-reactive strip• Appropriate documentation of fetal response• Prompt communication of findings to Maternal Fetal Medicine physician
4. Develop and provide perinatal education for patient and family• Ability to teach patient and family the complications of co-morbid conditions: gestational diabetes, hypertension, obesity• Teach labor and delivery expectations• Conduct assessment of pregnancy spacing and contraception
5. Phlebotomy / IV's• Vascular access as ordered by MD
6. Assist with special tests as necessary• Ability to use and seek out resources when necessary
7. Nursing Assessments of prenatal health• Uses professional manner in eliciting information from patients• Ability to discuss sensitive topics, ie. domestic violence/abuse• Ability to assess normal pregnancy and deviations from the norm and report to MFM
8. Work/communicate with OB team to ensure appropriate care• Evaluates effectiveness of care• Provide emotional and psychosocial support to patient and family
9. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
