Our multidisciplinary team of engineers, attorneys, CPAs, and technical specialists delivers a range of consulting services, including energy incentives, cost segregation studies, and R&D tax credits. Known for our responsive, relationship-driven approach, Tri-Merit provides audit-ready documentation, technical expertise, and strategic guidance that helps clients navigate complex opportunities while delivering measurable value.
Position Overview
Tri-Merit is expanding its Energy Services platform and is seeking a Director of Business Development with experience in the ESCO or broader energy services industry.
This role is designed for someone who understands the energy project lifecycle, knows how to navigate consultative sales environments, and has built strong industry relationships. The ideal candidate is a proactive business developer who can open doors, create opportunities, and represent Tri-Merit within the energy services market.
Important:
  • Prior tax credit or incentive experience is not required
  • ESCO / energy services experience is required

What You'll Do
  • Develop and grow business opportunities within the energy services market
  • Leverage relationships across ESCOs, EPCs, engineering firms, contractors, and ownership groups
  • Lead discovery conversations and early-stage opportunity development
  • Navigate multi-stakeholder projects and long-form sales cycles
  • Collaborate with Tri-Merit's internal technical teams on project execution and delivery
  • Represent Tri-Merit throughout the energy and ESCO community

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience at an ESCO or energy services firm
  • Strong understanding of consultative, relationship-driven sales
  • Existing industry relationships within energy, engineering, construction, or public-sector markets
  • Self-motivated professional comfortable working with autonomy
  • Strong communication and business development skills

What You Do Not Need
  • Tax credit or incentive experience (ITC, 179D, IRA, etc.)
  • Accounting or tax background
  • Engineering or modeling expertise
