OverviewPenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Director, Compensation at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this role is to lead PenFed’s compensation function, including the design, development, implementation, and administration of compensation programs and job architecture. This position oversees job evaluation, job families, career levels, salary structures, and market analysis to support organizational design, internal equity, regulatory compliance, and the attraction, retention, and motivation of a highly skilled workforce.

- Manage all compensation programs, and policies and procedures for PenFed and its affiliated businesses to ensure alignment across business units.
- Lead the Compensation Team on data preparation and analysis to support HR Business Partners with workforce planning, M&A activity, and administration of merit, bonus, incentive and commission plans.
- Directly manage and mentor compensation analysts,
- Design and implement compensation strategies, develop proposals and recommendations for new and improved programs based on business need, market need and/or governmental changes.
- Drive the development and governance of PenFed’s job architecture, including job families, career levels, and role definitions, to support organizational design, internal equity, market alignment, and scalable compensation programs.
- Collaborate with leaders at all levels of management to develop, refine, and implement compensation plans that align with business objectives, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
- Advise senior managers on resolutions for specific problems relating to salaries, job classifications, and job content issues.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of programs, special projects, research studies and other business unit initiatives to identify best practices and process improvements in order to promote functional efficiency and productivity.
- Collects and interprets area, regional and national compensation information for all employee levels using a variety of methods to determine the competitive position of PenFed.
QualificationsEquivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field preferred.
- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive compensation experience with 3 years in compensation at a preferred financial institution.
- Minimum of 2-4 years in management role proven quality leadership skills.
- Proven experience in managing policy change and implementation of new programs.
- Experience implementing and/or working on Workday and Salary.com preferred.
- Experience utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) resources to streamline compensation processes preferred.
- Solid command of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will supervise employees.
Licenses and Certifications
There are no additional certifications required.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Travel
Ability to travel to various worksites and be on call is required.
Pay Transparency
The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $97,400.00 - $224,113.00
This position is eligible for an organizational performance based annual bonus, subject to board discretion and approval.
This position is eligible for an individual performance based annual bonus.
