Role Summary

The Sr. Payroll Coordinator II is responsible for supporting payroll operations for the plant's hourly workforce, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, timekeeping administration, and employee support. This role serves as the primary payroll resource within the manufacturing facility, partnering closely with employees, Supervisors, Human Resources, and corporate payroll teams to ensure compliance with company policies as well as wage and hour regulations, and payroll procedures. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, customer-focused, and experienced in managing payroll processes within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The Sr. Payroll Coordinator II will report directly to Rivian’s Director, Payroll. You will be expected to work onsite about 2-3 times per week, and then available to work remotely when not working onsite. 


Responsibilities
  • Support the accurate and timely processing of weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll for hourly manufacturing employees.
  • Review and validate employee time records, attendance, overtime, shift differentials, premiums, and other payroll-related transactions.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, missed punches, pay adjustments, and employee inquiries.
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for the timekeeping system.
  • Monitor daily timekeeping activity and partner with supervisors to resolve exceptions and approve time records.
  • Train supervisors and employees on timekeeping processes and best practices.
  • Conduct audits to ensure accurate recording of hours worked, meal periods, overtime, and attendance.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for plant employees regarding payroll questions and concerns.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to payroll inquiries and resolving issues professionally.
  • Educate employees on payroll policies, pay statements, tax withholding elections, direct deposit, and other payroll-related matters.
  • Support employee onboarding activities related to payroll documentation and system setup.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, Operations, and Corporate Payroll to ensure accurate payroll administration.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and employee experience.
  • Assist with payroll system enhancements, testing, and process documentation as needed.
  • Maintain payroll records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with payroll audits and compliance reviews.
  • Prepare and analyze payroll reports, attendance reports, and labor-related metrics.
  • Support year-end payroll activities and tax reporting processes.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or other recognized high school equivalency credential required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, preferably supporting hourly employees in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processing, wage and hour laws, overtime regulations, and timekeeping systems.
  • Experience working with HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for 8-10 hours per day.
  • Required to communicate using phone and/or e-mail.
  • Ability to view, read, and interpret documents.
  • Ability to perform all duties in an office environment that may contain ambient noise and temperature fluctuations. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
  • Experience supporting large hourly employee populations.

Pay Disclosure

The salary range for this role is $30.41 to $38.01 for Illinois based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus. 

We offer a comprehensive package of benefits for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26, including but not limited to paid vacation, paid sick leave, and a competitive portfolio of insurance benefits including life, medical, dental, vision, short-term disability insurance, and long-term disability insurance to eligible employees. Full-time employee coverage is effective on their first day of employment. Part-time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
