Job Title: Patient Access Representative
Job Description
The Patient Access Representative plays a key role in creating a welcoming and efficient experience for patients and visitors in a medical and laboratory services setting. This position focuses on scheduling appointments, supporting registration and check-in, verifying insurance, processing payments, and performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to ensure smooth daily operations.
Responsibilities
  • Schedule patient appointments accurately and efficiently.
  • Greet patients and visitors upon arrival and ensure a welcoming, professional environment.
  • Assist patients with registration and check-in procedures, ensuring all required information is collected.
  • Enter patient demographic and billing information accurately into the system.
  • Verify insurance coverage and collect and post payments to patient accounts.
  • Collect and prepare specimens for testing and analysis when needed, following established procedures.
  • Call physician offices to confirm the accuracy of test orders and clarify any discrepancies.
  • Monitor and log patient wait times on a regular basis to support timely service.
  • Notify the supervisor promptly of any patient issues or concerns.
  • Promote and provide information about available patient services.
  • Manage office supplies and maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Open and close the office as needed, following established protocols.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties to support daily operations.

Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a medical office environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Face-to-face customer service or reception experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in patient access or patient registration functions.
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a healthcare setting and interact professionally with patients and clinical staff.

Work Environment
This is an onsite position in a medical laboratory setting at health system lab locations. The role involves frequent face-to-face interaction with patients, visitors, and clinical staff in a professional healthcare environment. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with no flexibility on start time. The work requires extended periods at a front desk or registration area using computers and other office equipment, as well as occasional handling of specimens following established procedures. Dress is expected to be professional and appropriate for a clinical and patient-facing environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
