Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking an experienced individual for a Program Manager (PM) 2 to provide program leadership to our Advanced Programs / Propulsion Technology & Weapons team, on-site at our Promontory Utah offices.


Overview

The Program Manager will lead a portfolio of technically challenging advanced programs supporting the U.S. Government and key partners. This position manages multiple contracts and contract types in a fast-paced environment, overseeing complex technologies such as solid rocket motors, energetic materials, stealth coatings, inks, and automotive airbag testing. The role offers significant visibility with Propulsion Systems and NGSP leadership and is ideal for a self-motivated individual seeking to leverage a strong technical base while deepening business, leadership, and growth-oriented experience.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple contracts across the Advanced Programs portfolio, spanning varied contract types and customers

  • Oversee NG AP plant operations, including automotive airbag testing and evaluation

  • Lead production efforts for stealth coatings and inks

  • Manage solid rocket motor and energetic materials contracted technology and R&D in support of U.S. Government and partner needs

  • Support and manage internal IRAD projects aligned to portfolio and business objectives

  • Plan, propose, and execute discretionary and funded programs, managing cost, schedule, scope, quality, and technical performance

  • Provide overall leadership and ownership for program success

  • Lead cross-functional teams to achieve technical, financial, and schedule objectives on complex programs

  • Interface, communicate, and collaborate with NGSP, Propulsion Systems, and functional organizations/leadership to execute programs

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, prime contractors, industry partners, and suppliers

  • Establish working relationships with external customers to communicate marketing, proposal, and program information

  • Market NGSP technical capabilities internally and externally; translate complex technical achievements into clear business plans

  • Grow NGSP organic capabilities into new products and offerings

  • Manage proposal preparation and submission to ensure alignment with NGSP business strategy, compliance with requirements, responsiveness to customer needs, and a solid foundation for negotiation and program performance

  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple, parallel projects

  • Engage with Propulsion Systems and NGSP leadership to support professional development and contribute to the future growth of the business unit and NGC as a whole

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, or related field with 10+ years' technical experience in the aerospace/defense industry

  • Minimum of 3 years of program/project management experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of business development

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers

  • Prior experience working with a diverse team to accomplish program goals

  • Earned Value Management (EVM) and/or Cost Account Manager (CAM) experience

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to understand and communicate the big picture

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance

  • US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, or related field

  • Expertise in solid rocket motor design and energetic materials

  • Working knowledge of safety and environmental requirements associated with rocket motor manufacturing

  • Strong technical background in solid rocket motor or related energetic materials technology

  • Experience interfacing with internal and external technical personnel and with Safety, Finance, Contracts, and Supply Chain organizations to execute programs

  • Familiarity with business tools and processes used at NGSS

  • Familiarity with various contract types (e.g., FFP, CPFF, T&M)

  • Active Security clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
