The Group Water Exercise Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, effective, and engaging aquatic fitness classes for participants of varying ages, abilities, and fitness levels. This role requires strong communication skills, enthusiasm, excellent rhythm and musicality, and the ability to motivate participants in a fun and supportive aquatic environment. Instructors are expected to teach a variety of water-based fitness classes while promoting participant safety, wellness, and enjoyment.
Requirements
  • Lead a variety of group water exercise classes in accordance with program standards and safety guidelines.
  • Create a welcoming, energetic, and inclusive environment that encourages participation and member retention.
  • Design and implement aquatic workouts appropriate for a range of fitness levels and abilities.
  • Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide modifications when needed.
  • Utilize rhythm and musical timing as much as possible to cue participants and enhance class engagement.
  • Ensure participant safety by monitoring class activities and responding appropriately to emergencies.
  • Prepare class equipment and maintain a clean, organized aquatic exercise area.
  • Build positive relationships with participants and provide motivation, encouragement, and fitness education.
  • Track attendance and comply with all facility policies, procedures, and aquatic safety regulations.
  • Stay current with aquatic fitness trends, techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in special events, wellness programs, and promotional activities as requested.
  • Current nationally recognized Group Fitness, Aquatic Fitness, or Water Exercise certification preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
  • Ability to enter and exit the pool safely and frequently depending on instructing style.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and set up aquatic fitness equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform physical activities associated with aquatic fitness instruction.
