Job description

Ivy Tech South Bend campus is searching for an individual passionate about Surgical Technology and for teaching the next generation of CSTs to enter the workforce. This part-time position would start teaching this upcoming fall semester that starts in the Fall 2026 Semester.
GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

SUPERVISION GIVEN: None
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time
COMPENSATION: $47.35/ Contracted Hour
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course objectives.
โ€ข Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
โ€ข Works with students to remove barriers to retention and completion of the program.
โ€ข Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
โ€ข Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
โ€ข Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with college policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
โ€ข Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS
1.Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
2.Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
3.Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).
4.Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A qualified faculty member teaching Surgical Technology courses meets the Surgical Technology program standard or the course standard, whichever standard applies to the specific course.
โ€ข Possesses an associate degree in Surgical Technology or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and
โ€ข Possesses a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by CAAHEP
โ€ข Has a minimum total of five years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both within the past ten years, and
โ€ข Possesses proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
โ€ข Possesses a current BLS certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
โ€ข College level teaching experience.
โ€ข Bachelor's degree
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction.
