Job description

Runway 19 is seeking a Part-Time Barista to join our team. This position will start as 10-15 hours per week but has the opportunity to grow into a full-time opportunity. We treat our team members right and are looking for someone ready to make an impact. Apply today to see what we're all about.
Major Objectives:
  • Interact with guests, take and make orders, and create a positive and memorable guest experience.
  • Prepare and serve food and beverages for guests in the order they were purchased.
  • Educate guests on menu items and coffee; make recommendations based on their preferences, upsell profitable items, process payments.
  • Maintain cleanliness of person, work area, and café before, during, and after a shift.
  • Ensure guest satisfaction and company standards are followed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Greet guests with an engaging, courteous, and high-energy manner.
  • Exhibit knowledge of ingredients and preparation of all menu items and answer guest questions.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of prepped product to keep up with the flow of business and anticipated sales.
  • Look ahead to monitor stock counts and communicate needs to the manager on duty.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by bussing, pre-bussing, sweeping floors, wiping prep areas, and completing side work and beautification.
  • Respond to guest feedback and work to resolve complaints.
  • Practice good time management skill with the guest experience in mind.
  • Build rapport with guests to create a positive atmosphere.
  • Confidently communicate efficiently and effectively with a diverse group of guests. Provide stimulating conversation and use social perception to keep the environment conducive to sales growth.
  • Apply short- and long-term memory tactics to maintain a mental list of guest and team member needs.
  • Maintain equipment health by cleaning and troubleshooting. Check equipment daily and report maintenance needs to the MOD.
  • Ensure that all food and beverage items are consistently prepared and served in adherence with company recipes, portions, and cooking expectations.
  • Create an environment where guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly, and courteous service.
  • Resolve guest dissatisfaction with professionalism and in accordance with company standards.
  • Receive products in the correct unit, count, and condition. Rectify non-compliance.
  • Control cash and related receipts and reports by adhering to cash handling procedures in accordance with company expectations.
  • Follow intended procedures for equipment use.
  • Practice active listening and keep attention to detail, especially when taking orders.
  • Update signage and displays to attract guests and sales.
  • Memorize menus and recipes.
  • Any other duties/tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Be able to reach, bend, stop and frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time and in fluctuating temperatures due to the need to enter the freezer, be in the cooking area, and outdoors on the patio space.
  • Be 16 years of age.
  • Understand cooking times, temperatures, and processes.
  • Ability to work in any position in the restaurant for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and at a fast-pace.
  • Ability to pass menu and recipe tests with reasonable amount of preparation time.
  • Have the ability to operate a cash register and POS system.
  • Flexibility in frequently changing tasks.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and ask questions seeking clarification if needed.
  • Willingness to continually expand knowledge regarding food and beverage preparation and trends.
  • Hands on experience with brewing and commercial cooking equipment.
  • Must obtain certifications as required by company policy or local regulatory board.
