Job description

POSITION PURPOSE
The Maintenance Technician's primary role is to keep equipment functioning properly by performing preventative and reactive maintenance and emergency repairs. This role will also support production, warehouse and general office operations in the maintenance of company equipment and systems.
This position is currently available on either second shift (2PM - 10:30PM), or third shift (10PM - 6:30AM).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime
  • Performs reactive maintenance on production lines to recover from component failure
  • Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns for machines
  • Apply continuous improvement principles to perform equipment improvements
  • Repairs mechanical, electrical, and structural components: creates retrofits and fabrication, as needed
  • Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Works on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and electric motors
  • Utilizes Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to maintain the cleanliness of the work areas and all associated equipment
  • Regular, consistent attendance required
  • Surveys buildings and repairs mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards
  • Performs maintenance of electrical systems (replace light bulbs and sockets, clean and repair circuit breaker panels etc.)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully and professionally with employees and vendors/contractors
  • Sense of urgency with an attention to detail and safety
  • Ability to operate in a challenging, fast paced environment
  • Flexibility to support all shifts, as needed, including on call work, weekend and holidays
  • Ability to support all areas of maintenance to include training and continuing education
  • Ability to apply OSHA Safety standards
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to operate machinery, forklift, scissor lift, boom truck, cranes, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written
  • Ability to work in teams and individually effectively and efficiently
  • Strong understanding of equipment troubleshooting and repair
  • Proven experience as maintenance technician
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices
  • Ability to evaluate computer related work orders in accordance with accuracy
  • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to understand and work on PLC, VFD and electric motors

PHYSICAL REQUREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma/GED
  • 3 - 4+ years of previous production line maintenance
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong mechanical and electrical skills
  • Vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience, preferred
