Overview / Job Summary:
This part-time position is responsible for delivering Related Technical Instruction (RTI) to apprentices enrolled in the three-year Sheet Metal (HVAC) Mechanic Apprenticeship Program. The instructor will provide both in-person and online instruction to support the development of technical and professional skills required for success in the sheet metal trade.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary, but are not limited to:
  • Deliver face-to-face and online instruction for the Sheet Metal (HVAC) Mechanic apprenticeship curriculum.
  • Conduct hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises in fabrication techniques, welding, blueprint reading, layout, and installation procedures.
  • Assess apprentice competency through written exams, demonstrations, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate apprentice records, including attendance, progress, and competency achievement.
  • Coordinate with employers and on-the-job training mentors to ensure classroom instruction aligns with workplace learning.
  • Integrate current industry standards, building codes, OSHA safety regulations, and emerging technologies into instruction.
  • Provide individualized support to apprentices with varying skill levels and learning needs.
  • Participate in curriculum reviews, program meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship and Kansas Department of Commerce requirements.

Requirements
Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Journey-level certification or equivalent documented competency in sheet metal (HVAC) work.
  • Strong knowledge of industry safety standards, building codes, and OSHA regulations.
  • Previous training, teaching, or mentoring experience with apprentices or entry-level workers (preferred).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, peers, and employers.
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to student success.
