Job Summary

Reporting to the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Program Leader for Youth Spaces is responsible to effectively and actively supervise drop-in youth spaces and complete administrative work related to assigned program areas.

Job Duties Include

  • Supervises youth in the space, and ensures they meet age requirements, abide by all rules and ensures a safe and enjoyable environment.

  • Ensures all equipment is being signed out, monitored while in use and locked up.

  • Program plans and implements theme nights and engaging activities.

  • Maintains ongoing and effective communications with parents, public, co-workers and Community Recreation Coordinator.

  • Interacts with youth and creates a positive and supportive environment.

  • Monitors the arrival and departure of participants from Youth Space.

  • Assists with the general maintenance of program space (sweeping, litter control etc.).

  • Promotes an environment of safety and respect among participants in the program.

  • Ensures that all required organizational and administrative duties are completed in a timely manner.

  • Reports all injuries of any participants, staff or property damage to the Community Recreation Coordinator and fills out applicable accident/incident, property damage or WSIB forms immediately.

  • Abides by the Town of Ajax policies and acts in a professional manner at all times.

  • Attends all related meetings and training as required by the Community Recreation Coordinator.

  • Handles concerns, complaints and suggestions from the public in a professional manner and passes these along to the Community Recreation Coordinator.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum 18 years of age or older.

  • Previous experience working with children and/or youth in a recreational setting.

  • Excellent organization, time management and planning skills.

  • Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.

  • Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) that is current (completed within the last six months), upon being hired.

Nice to Have

  • Preferred 1 or more years' experience related to the delivery of programs and services.

What is Offered to Staff

  • Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.

  • Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week. Staff must be available for minimum of 1 weekday shift & 1 weekend shift per week.

    • Monday to Friday: 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

    • Saturday & Sunday: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
