Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Admission and Enrollment Specialist Assistant's main function is to support the office of Admissions and Enrollment on the Virginia Beach Campus.
This position will provide information about Admissions and Enrollment and will assist students in person, on the phone and in email about applying to Tidewater Community College, scheduling classes and class availability, give general information about records and grades, third party contracts, cross registration, transcripts, verifications, admissions and domicile. Assist in recruitment related events and college campus tours.
The Primary duties for the Admissions and Enrollment Specialist Assistant include excellent customer service skills and provide knowledge of Admissions and Enrollment. Support problem solving issues regarding enrollment, grades, records, transcript request, enrollment verification request, cross registration, data changes, senior citizens, and FERPA forms.
The Admissions and Enrollment Specialist Assistant is responsible for maintaining the department's workspace by ensuring that college forms and publications are accurate and up to date, the daily sorting and distributing mail, processing official college transcripts, verifications, data changes, enroll/drops and withdraws students using PeopleSoft/Oracle SIS system. Also researching, processing and removing negative and positive service indicators on student's account.
The Admissions and Enrollment Specialist Assistant must scan and maintain student's documents into a college wide database using Image-Now Imaging System. The Education Support Specialist will troubleshoot, answer enrollment, record and grade questions through student walkup, email and on the phone.
The Admissions and Enrollment Specialist Assistant will participate in outreach communication to potential and current students on enrollment. Advise and interprets VCCS, TCC, FERPA, state policies and procedures to students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public. Greet incoming visitors, student, faculty and staff members at the welcome desk. Assist students with complete admissions and enrollment processes, paperwork and getting started in school.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse constitutes.
  • Strong ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member. Knowledge and skill in researching and resolving problems and issues with enrollment, records and grades.
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft or other SIS systems.
  • Experience in a college setting.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Virginia Community College (VCCS), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and college policies and procedures as they relate to student services.
  • Demonstrate ability to use Microsoft Office Suite including Excel.
  • Ability to organize and maintain files and records.
