How much do part time notary public jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 17, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time notary public in the United States is $64,777.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $62,000.00 and $72,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Part Time Notary Publics?

A Part Time Notary Public is an individual authorized by the state to serve as an impartial witness in the signing of important documents, such as legal forms, real estate transactions, and affidavits, but does so on a part-time basis. Their responsibilities include verifying the identity of signers, ensuring all parties understand the documents, and preventing fraud. Part time notaries often work flexible hours and may perform notarial services alongside another job or as a supplemental income source. They may work independently, for an employer, or offer mobile notary services to clients at various locations.

How much do Notaries make on the side?

Part-time notaries typically earn between $10 and $20 per signature, with some earning more depending on the state, the complexity of the notarizations, and their experience. Additional income can come from offering mobile services or handling specialized documents, but overall earnings depend on the number of clients and notarizations completed.

Can I work-from-home as a notary?

Part-time notary publics can often perform remote notarizations if permitted by state law, which may involve using online platforms and digital tools. However, in-person notarizations are typically required for certain documents, so the ability to work from home depends on local regulations and the types of notarizations performed.

Which notary job makes the most money?

Among notary-related roles, mobile notary public jobs often pay the highest, especially when handling complex or urgent documents such as loan signings or legal affidavits. Experienced notaries who obtain certifications in specialized areas or work with signing services can command higher fees, sometimes earning several hundred dollars per appointment. Income varies based on location, workload, and the complexity of the notarizations performed.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time Notary Publics, and how can they be managed?

Part-time Notary Publics often face challenges such as scheduling flexibility to accommodate clients, staying updated with state-specific notarial laws, and ensuring proper record-keeping. Balancing another job or personal commitments with notary duties may require careful planning and communication with clients. It is also important to maintain strict attention to detail to avoid errors that could result in legal complications. Joining professional associations and using digital tools for scheduling and record management can help address these challenges.

Can I do notary work as a side hustle?

Part-time notary publics can often work as a side hustle, providing services such as witnessing signatures and administering oaths outside of regular employment hours. Certification and adherence to state laws are required, and many notaries operate independently or through signing services to accommodate flexible schedules.

What Does a Part-Time Notary Public Do?

As a part-time notary public, you are a witness to the signing of legal documents, working fewer than 40 hours per week, usually on a flexible schedule or an as-needed basis. Your responsibilities are to be present while clients sign legal documents, record the date and time of signing, certify copies of original documents, and verify that the signer’s identification is correct. Some notaries public also carry out their duties in legal settings, such as mediation rooms or courtrooms, to verify signatures between parties in legal cases. Part-time notaries public usually have other jobs that allow them to meet with clients during their regular working hours, such as a bank clerk or a paralegal.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Notary Public, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Notary Public, you need a thorough understanding of notarial laws, attention to detail, and must possess a valid notary commission from your state. Familiarity with notary journals, electronic notarization platforms, and basic office software is typically required. Integrity, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills help build client trust and ensure compliance with legal standards. These skills are crucial for accurately executing notarizations, preventing fraud, and maintaining a strong professional reputation.
