Nuclera is seeking an HR Manager to support the continued growth of the organisation. This role requires an individual with moderate industrial experience preferably in small to medium biotech companies. 

Nuclera is a venture-backed, founder-driven biotech company headquartered in Cambridge, UK with significant operations in Boston, USA. The company's mission is to improve human health by making proteins accessible. We are beginning this mission through the launch of our eProtein Discovery platform. eProtein Discovery is a breakthrough protein expression, characterization, and purification technology, consisting of a lab-based benchtop instrument, cloud-based software and proprietary cartridges and consumables. The goal is to enable rapid protein access to life science researchers around the world.

The HR Manager will be responsible for assisting the SVP of People in executing HR policies and initiatives. In this role, you will work closely with the rest of the People team consisting of the SVP of People, US Facilities / EHS Manager, and the Global Facilities Director to help deliver a professional People service to the organization. You will interact on a day-to-day basis with the best scientists, engineers, and developers in the UK and US who are working to deliver on our mission to make proteins accessible.  

This role will suit an individual who has experience working in fast-paced small to medium sized biotech companies with a track record of execution and teamwork. 

About the role:

  • Report to the SVP of People
  • Be the HR site in-charge of our facility in Billerica
  • Serve as the primary point of contact at Nuclera US (NUS) office for managers, employees, grievances, and conflict resolution
  • Manage HR processes such as performance reviews, reward and recognition, for NUS employees 
  • Update and maintain employee policies and handbook in for the US organisation up to date in line with current legislation
  • Manage NUS payroll - update US payroll (joining, promotions, off-boarding etc.) and be the single point of contact to employees for payroll related issues
  • Manage NUS Benefits administration involves designing, enrolling, and managing non-wage compensation packages that attract, retain, and support employees.
  • Manage Massachusetts Compliance & Wage/Hour requirements and proactively recognise any new compliance matters relevant to the business
  • Maintain HR systems and administration (e.g., BambooHR, Workable ND Carta); including staff records, holidays, and sickness
  • Collaborate with the RPO for hiring and maintaining the headcount in the US organisation
  • Conduct internal workplace investigations (harassment, discrimination, policy violations) in compliance with Mass Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) guidelines.
  • Continuously communicate HR policies, practices, and changes to US staff
  • Provide a great employee experience and enable high employee engagement levels 
  • Collaborate for building capability that improve business performance
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative HR information in order to guide and influence decisions 

Requirements

Essentials:

  • Previous experience within an HR team
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts employment laws
  • Strong knowledge of Google Suite and MS Office packages.
  • Knowledge of software-based ATS, HR, and purchasing systems.

Desirables:

  • SHRM/HRCI Qualification
  • Experience liaising with HR departments across sites
  • Experience in SME life-science or biotech companies
