Job description

THE POSITION The Pennsylvania Game Commission is looking for a Small Game Mammals Biologist (Wildlife Biologist 2) to administer the overall operations of our Small Game Mammals Section. This advanced professional role serves as principal investigator for small game mammal studies and as the agency's technical advisor on small game mammals in Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position coordinates and manages the Pennsylvania Game Commission's small game mammals program. Our team will rely on you to be responsible for small game mammals research, management, monitoring, and outreach statewide. As a Small Game Mammals Biologist, you will perform the following duties: Research Oversight: Identify research needs and develop strategic goals, objectives, and research proposals for the program; review research requests and permit applications submitted by others Plan Management: Design, implement, lead, and coordinate wildlife management plans and research projects; collaborate with other specialists; and train outside helpers Field Work: Capture, mark, and monitor small game animals; collect, prepare, and deliver samples; and maintain capture tools and equipment Data Reporting: Analyze and evaluate wildlife population and management data using statistical techniques, mapping software, and other programs, then interpret and report results Outreach and Technical Assistance: Present research findings to various audiences, respond to internal and external inquiries, and write scientific and popular articles for publication Administrative Documentation: Prepare and submit time, travel, vehicle, and purchasing reports; help develop an annual budget that prioritizes program needs Interested in learning more.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of the initial six-month probationary period.

In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Wildlife Biologist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of professional experience conducting wildlife management research and a bachelor's degree that includes thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field, and six college credits in statistics or biometry; or Six years of experience conducting wildlife management research, including two years in a professional capacity, and thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field and six college credits in statistics or biometry; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, zoology, or a closely related field and six college credits in statistics or biometry Special Requirements: You must possess an active motor vehicle license. Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.

You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirements: This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
