Position Summary
The City of Katy is seeking a friendly, dependable, and enthusiastic Museum Clerk to support the daily operations of the Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum and MKT Depot Museum. This position serves as an ambassador for Katy's rich history by welcoming visitors, providing guided tours, assisting with museum activities, and helping create an engaging and educational experience for guests of all ages.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with the public, has strong customer service skills, and is interested in sharing local history and culture with the community.
Schedule availability: Thursday - Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 11am-5pm ; Position will cover both facilities, rotating with other employees and may take on additional shifts if necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Greet visitors and provide information about museum exhibits, programs, and services.
  • Conduct guided tours and interpret exhibits for individuals, families, school groups, and other visitors.
  • Compile and maintain daily visitor statistics and assist with museum recordkeeping.
  • Answer visitor inquiries in person and by telephone.
  • Assist with exhibit setup, organization, and basic upkeep of display areas.
  • Support museum special events, educational programs, and community outreach activities.
  • Perform light clerical duties, including filing, data entry, and distribution of visitor materials.
  • Help ensure museum facilities remain clean, organized, safe, and welcoming.
  • Work collaboratively with museum staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework in history, museum studies, education, communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous customer service, hospitality, retail, tourism, education, or other public-facing experience is preferred.
  • Interest in history, museums, cultural programs, or community engagement is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
