Come join our team as aTechnical Editor!This pivotal role is essential tomaintainingOsborn Consulting's reputation for accuracy and professionalism. As a team player, you will support all our practices as they deliver critical public infrastructure projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. You will collaborate with project managers and technical staff to produce a variety of unique project deliverables,including memorandums and reports,supporting projects that make a direct impact on our local communities.


About the Role
We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks. If you have a passion for learning and a curiosity about the civil engineering and landscape architecture world, we encourage you to apply! This will be apart-time, benefit-eligible role at 32 hours/weekwith the potential of developing into a 40-hour full-time position.


General responsibilities for the position:


  • Oversees the technical editing of material for reports,memorandums, sales proposals, training materials,engineering specifications,meeting minutes,presentations,andothertechnical and administrative publications.
  • Performs copyediting ontechnical documentsaccording to theChicago Manual of Styleand Osborn's in-house style guide.
  • Reviewsdocuments with a strategic lens to ensure they fulfill their intended purpose, asking clarifying questions and using editorialexpertiseto enhance clarity, flow, and audience understanding.
  • Conducts research and ensures the use of proper technical and industry terminology;ensures consistency andaccuracyoflanguage useand acronym usage.
  • Prioritizes editingfocus(e.g., grammar and punctuation, clarity, word choice, and formatting)based onthe requested level of effort andtime available for each project.
  • As necessary or as requested,
    reorganizes, cuts, or rewrites documentcontent.
  • ReviewsdraftWordtables andfiguresto ensure the content supports and is consistent with the accompanying text.
  • Servesas thecompanysubject matter expertonMicrosoftWordandExcelformatting.
  • Ensures documents meet ADA accessibility requirementsand follow recommendations for accessible Word documents.
  • Performsfinal formatting and production of documents, including compilation ofPDFs.
  • Managesthe Osborn template library, creating new,easy-to-useWordtemplates and revising templatesas needed.
  • Managesthe Osborn style guide and usage guide.
  • Develops internal trainingto promote technical report writing skills.


About You

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Strong writing, technical editing, proofreading, and page composition skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills, including formatting and report production.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and work with multiple project managers concurrently.
  • Flexibilityto edit to requested level of effortand understand when lighter copyediting or more detailed line editing may berequired.
  • Strongattention to detailand takesownership of managingworkload.
  • Experience inA/E/C industrystronglypreferred.
  • Experience inSpecsIntactis preferred but notrequired.

The expected compensation range for this position for employees based in the Bellevue/Seattle area is $35-$50/hrand is dependent upon skills, experience,education,and geographical location.
