Job description

Description:

The Preservation Society of Newport County seeks a part-time Distribution Associate to work up to 24 hours per week, seasonally. Work schedule typically weekdays. Daily work times range between 8:00-4:00, depending on assignment and visitor attendance. Certain special events may require occasional evening or holiday scheduling.

The Distribution Center Associate performs manual duties related to the receipt and shipment of merchandise. Basic work entails the receiving, storage, and distribution of PSNC property, including merchandise as well as general supplies. Prioritize ticketing merchandise with Distribution Center Team Leader, ticketing merchandise properly and distributing it to appropriate store shelves or in warehouse by assigned quantities is a major part of the job.

  • Accurately receive tag and process merchandise shipments to store locations. Each item is counted and the count verified against shipping document inspected for quality and priced in appropriate location.
  • Assist in loading of merchandise on to delivery van daily. May assist driver with deliveries on days when there are large or heavy deliveries to the stores.
  • Assist shipping and receiving (as needed) unloading trucks.
  • Assemble requested orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or relocates orders to a holding area or shipping department.
  • Mark materials with identifying information using appropriate method; ie. Bar codes
  • Move materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas.
  • Assist in counting of physical inventory.
  • Count items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to company standards.
  • Participate in spot and annual inventory.
  • Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Open bales, crates, and other containers.
  • Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of the warehouse work and storage areas, keep warehouse and work area organized at all times.
  • May be assigned facilities maintenance duties as needed.
Requirements:

The desirable candidate will prosses the following qualifications:

  • High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Warehouse-related experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to make sensible and rational decisions under potentially stressful conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to consistently arrive at work on time and ready to begin duties.
  • Ability to communicate with associates and guests.
  • Ability to manage and maintain perspective and balance. Able to multitask and establish priorities.
  • Ability to reach and restock shelves.
  • Able to bend, stoop and twist.
  • Ability to bend, climb ladders and reach.
  • Work may be repetitive in motion with hands.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
