Job description

Overview

The TSP Summer Assistant Director supports the TSP Director in general functions of the off-site trips throughout the summer. TSP Assistant Director will work with TSP leaders to coordinate trip details and carry out risk management policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities
  • Assist TSP Staff throughout training week to set up and maintain organized training spaces
  • Act as TSP Staff Certification Week 'host' by welcoming staff as they arrive, giving tours, checking in with staff at meals, and running ice-breaker games in the evening
  • Support the CPR, Life Guard, and WFA instructors
  • Act as general support to leaders as they prep for their programs
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, such as data entry, and printing training materials
  • Lead trainings during staff week in areas of past experience and high confidence
  • Assist in coaching trip leaders in a variety of areas, including risk management, camper management, team building, cultural sensitivity, outdoor cooking, cabin chat, and recreation activities
  • Continually monitor TSP Programs for safety, and consult with the TSP Director and/or Risk Manager on any concerns
  • Serve as on-call personnel on a rotating or stand-alone basis as designated by the TSP Director
  • Keep inventories of BCCYMCA stock and program equipment
  • Do occasional camper and staff pickups and drops offs throughout the New England region including Lee, MA; Albany, NY; and Hartford, CT.
  • Work with camp kitchen and administration staff to schedule meals and van/bus checkouts
  • Assist with Parent/Camper Orientations and Check-Outs, and Gibson Weekend presentations
  • Support leaders with program debrief closing tasks
  • Be flexible and prepared to accept changes in scheduling
  • Sensitivity to various cultures
  • Have a valid passport and be willing to travel to TSP program locations as instructed by the TSP Director
  • Accept other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years or older by end of June 2026
  • Must have experience working with children with experience in a resident camp setting desired
  • Good health, vitality, and lots of energy
  • Demonstrated strong judgment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring First Aid/CPR
  • Have a current driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability/willingness to drive a camp van and/or camp mini-bus
