As of Jun 29, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time cyber security in the United States is $122,890.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $102,000.00 and $142,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a Part Time Cyber Security job?

A Part Time Cyber Security job involves working limited hours while helping to protect an organization's digital assets. Responsibilities may include monitoring networks, analyzing threats, responding to incidents, and implementing security measures. These roles are ideal for students, freelancers, or professionals seeking flexible work arrangements. Part-time positions can be found in industries like finance, healthcare, and technology, and may be remote or on-site.

Can I work part-time in cybersecurity?

Yes, cybersecurity professionals can work part-time, especially in roles such as security analysts or consultants, which may involve flexible schedules or project-based work. Part-time positions often require relevant skills, certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP, and the ability to work independently or remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Part Time Cyber Security position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Cyber Security professional, you need a strong understanding of network security principles, risk assessment, and incident response, usually supported by formal education or industry certifications. Familiarity with tools like firewalls, intrusion detection systems, SIEM platforms, and certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CISSP is highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly are key soft skills for this role. These skills are essential for protecting organizational assets, staying ahead of evolving threats, and ensuring effective team collaboration, even in a part-time capacity.

Can I make $200 a year in cyber security?

Part time cybersecurity roles typically pay more than $200 annually, as entry-level positions often start at several thousand dollars per year, depending on skills, certifications, and hours worked. Earning only $200 annually would be highly unlikely in this field, even for part-time work, since cybersecurity jobs generally require specialized knowledge and offer higher compensation.

What are the typical responsibilities of a part-time cyber security professional?

Part-time cyber security professionals are often tasked with monitoring network activity, conducting vulnerability assessments, managing security tools, and responding to incidents as they arise. You may also be responsible for supporting staff training, updating security protocols, and collaborating with IT or compliance teams to ensure security best practices are followed. The role typically involves balancing several ongoing projects or security reviews in a limited number of hours per week. Despite the part-time schedule, your contributions are crucial in maintaining organizational security and quickly addressing any emerging threats.

What is the 80 20 rule in cyber security?

In cybersecurity, the 80/20 rule suggests that approximately 80% of security issues are caused by 20% of vulnerabilities or threats. Part time cybersecurity professionals often focus on addressing the most critical vulnerabilities first, using tools like vulnerability scanners and prioritization frameworks to improve security efficiently.

Is 30 too old for cyber security?

Part-time cybersecurity roles are open to individuals of various ages, and age is not a barrier to entering the field. Success depends on skills, certifications, and experience, which can be gained at any age through training and self-education.
