ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Library Assistant - Circulation

Part Time Temporary - 19 hours per week

Hiring Pay: $17.00/hour

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Work Schedule:

  • 19 hour per week position.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides a variety of services to patrons at the check-out desk
  • Checks books and other library materials out to patrons using the Yavapai Library Network's shared automation software
  • Checks in and shelves returned items
  • Empties book drops
  • Issues library cards to new patrons, renews cards, accepts payments for fines and fees and updates patron information.
  • Tasks include routine library and clerical tasks for which procedures are well established and under the supervision of the Circulation Librarian.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Education and/or experience equivalent to High School Diploma and one (1) year customer service work experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of library clerical procedures or ability to acquire such knowledge with ease.
  • Ability to follow oral and written direction.
  • Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically, clerical aptitude, accuracy and ability to keep to a schedule.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, credit card machine, and accurately make change (cash and coin).
  • Ability to operate computers in a Windows environment and work with web-based technology.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Most work is performed in a library environment, and some in community settings.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
  • Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
