MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY WE SERVE!
Position provides a variety of support for functions, programs, and services in one of the largest growing cities in Shelby County.ย  Position includes the following:
The purpose of this position is to assist library patrons, particularly as it relates to checking materials in/out of the library, collecting fines, and processing membership applications.
This position will work up to 20 hours per week including morning & weekends.ย 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:ย 
Performs circulation desk procedures such as checking materials in/out of the library using an automated circulation system; inspecting returned materials; applying fines for damaged, lost or overdue materials; placing holds for patrons on unavailable items; and completing opening/closing procedures. Assists patrons in completing membership applications; verifies information; and updates information and patron records in the computer system. Answers routine patron questions and provides general information about library services and facilities; refers patron to the appropriate librarian as needed. Assists patrons in the use of public access catalog and Print/Time Management, as well as Self Check Out when needed.ย Answers telephone and assists with other clerical duties as assigned. Responds and attempts to resolve patron complaints or problems in a tactful and courteous manner.ย Assists with collection development by passing on requested titles to the appropriate Librarian. Assists in sorting, shelving, and searching for library materials; reads and sorts shelves as assigned. Produces, copies, and monitors handouts, flyers, newsletters, etc. Designs and prepares exhibits and decorates display case. Monitors and inventories supplies, unassigned library cards, etc. Assist with event preparation which may include crafting dรฉcor, hanging decorations, setting up tables and chairs, etc. Records various statistics and submits reports to supervisor.

โ€‹Physical requirements includeย the following: Vision necessary to see and read titles and numbers of books.ย The physical activities required for this position involve:ย Must be able to occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to reach and lift materials.ย  Must be able to maneuver a loaded book truck weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be able to lift and move books and materials in order to place in appropriate location on shelves. This position requires lifting: Up to 25 pounds frequently; up to 50 pounds occasionally.ย The following physical conditions and hazards may be encountered while working in this position: Exposure to dust and dirt.ย
