How much do part time border patrol agent jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time border patrol agent in the United States is $88,157.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $46,500.00 and $111,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some unique challenges faced by part-time Border Patrol Agents compared to full-time agents?

Part-time Border Patrol Agents often face the challenge of staying up-to-date with rapidly changing procedures and policies, as they may have less frequent training or field exposure than their full-time counterparts. This can require extra effort to maintain proficiency in areas such as legal updates, tactical protocols, and technology systems. Additionally, part-time agents may need to adapt quickly to varying shifts and diverse operational teams, which can make building strong working relationships more challenging. However, the role still offers meaningful opportunities to contribute to national security and develop valuable law enforcement skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Border Patrol Agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Border Patrol Agent, you need knowledge of law enforcement procedures, physical fitness, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often complemented by passing a background check and entrance exam. Familiarity with surveillance technology, radio communication systems, and law enforcement databases is typically required. Strong situational awareness, decision-making, and interpersonal communication skills help agents effectively manage challenging and dynamic situations. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring border security, enforcing immigration laws, and maintaining public safety.

What are part time Border Patrol Agents?

Part time Border Patrol Agents are law enforcement officers who work for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on a reduced or flexible schedule, rather than full time. They are responsible for detecting and preventing illegal entry of people and contraband across U.S. borders, enforcing immigration and customs laws, and ensuring national security. While their core duties are similar to full-time agents, part time agents may have limited hours and responsibilities depending on agency needs. They receive training and must meet the same qualifications as full-time agents. Part time positions can offer more flexibility for those balancing other commitments.
