Description:

Position Summary:

Faculty members are responsible for the delivery of quality education services. This entails engaging students, fostering learning, role modeling professionalism, and ultimately producing competently trained students prepared for professional careers. This includes working with the Associate Director of Nursing over the assigned cohort, the Director of Nursing, and other campus faculty and staff to ensure consistent and high-quality delivery of assigned courses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare course plans and materials.
  • Deliver course lectures/facilitate labs and/or clinical rotations.
  • Monitor equipment and supply needs.
  • Maintain classroom.
  • Seek out an approved substitute in case of faculty memberโ€™s need for absence.
  • Enforce HCI policies (attendance, dress code, clinical policies, etc.).
  • Participate in orientation, graduation, and pinning ceremonies (full-time faculty required and part-time requested).
  • Work on retention plans and program development.
  • Attend staff and faculty meetings (full-time faculty required and part-time requested).
  • Participate in committees and knowledge sharing forums (full-time faculty required and part-time requested).
  • Facilitate student engagement.
  • Direct and assess student progress in achieving theory (content: cognitive) and performance (competencies: psychomotor and
    affective) requirement of the program.
  • Monitor student progress and follow-up as needed.
  • Provide weekly feedback reports to the ADON, DON, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs (SVPAA), and Group Campus
    President/Chief Operating Officer (COO).
  • Maintain any relevant licensures, certifications, and other required maintenance of paperwork for personnel file.
  • Maintain a minimum of eight (8) hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUโ€™s) annually by participating in professional development and
    in-services (i.e., continuing education, professional activities, conference presentations, scholarly publications, etc.).
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available, and use feedback to improve course
    delivery.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Participate in ACEN and other accreditation activities.
  • Comply with all governmental regulations and standards of accreditation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At HCI, faculty delivers courses that are part of standard academic programs. Faculty Members are responsible for ensuring a quality education for students in their course and programs. All faculty should, at a minimum, have the degree required for the specific discipline and have experience and appropriate credentials in their relevant area of academia according to the Florida Board of Nursing (FBON), ACEN, ACCSC, and other governing bodies. The Nurse Administrator should remember that, according to the FBON, 50% or more of the faculty must have a masterโ€™s or doctoral degree in Nursing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills.
  • Excellent teaching skill and ability to efficiently manage studentsโ€™ clinical and skills lab activities.
  • Computer literacy skills including functional knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to manage people and projects.
  • Knowledgeable in the course content.
  • Effective in directing and evaluating student learning and lab performance.
  • Prepared in Educational Theory and Techniques.
  • A willingness to follow high ethical standards.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of an earned Bachelorโ€™s degree with a major in nursing (BSN or equivalent) from an accredited nursing program (Required)
  • Masterโ€™s degree with a major in nursing (MSN or equivalent) from an accredited nursing program (Preferred)
  • Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license issued by the
    Florida Department of Health (Required)
  • Current and active Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (Required)
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught (per ACCSC)

Workload Expectations:

  • Workload is dependent upon the faculty classification.
  • Faculty will start and end on time for assigned courses, clinicals, and lab hours.
  • Faculty must obtain prior approval from the ADON/DON if their assignment will require overtime.
  • Teaching must be in face-to-face contact with students in any of the following areas, as driven by cohort needs:
  • Didactic/classroom instruction
  • Clinical/offsite or onsite active patient/mannequin care experience
  • Lab/Simulation/Active Learning experiences
  • Full-Time Faculty are required to:
  • Teach a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Attend meetings.
  • Participate in accreditation.
  • Serve on committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands are those required in a professional office setting and higher education teaching environment, along with activities of a professional nurse: communicating with coworkers, presenting to a classroom of students, demonstrating procedures and techniques, and getting to and from appropriate classes and offices. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Working Environment:

Compensation

Annual merit-based salary increases are awarded to all eligible full-time and part-time faculty members.

This position will be based out of:
