Description
Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire an Academic & Career Coach. This is a part-time, non-union, non-exempt, and non-benefits-eligible position which will work a minimum of 3 days in-person a week on the Oregon City Campus. Remote work may be an option after 6 months of employment. This position works within a team of 15 full and part time staff in the Advising Department.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Advisors are responsible for informing prospective, new, returning, and current students of academic programs, degree and career options, registration processes, college policies, and transfer procedures while providing excellent customer service to their assigned student caseload. Advisors will collaborate with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners in a proactive case management process to facilitate the development of intentional educational and career plans to help students achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. Advisors play an essential role in the implementation of student services activities to increase retention rates, course completion rates, and/or transfer to either a college/university or the workforce
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Academic Advising (60 - 70%)
    1. Advise students on educational offerings that CCC offers based on student's interests and goals.
    2. Determine the student's placement in math and writing and/or review transcripts for placement.
    3. Educate students on prerequisites and degree requirements.
    4. Discuss employment experience, career survey results, employment outlook, expected salary
    5. Inform students of the community resources on campus & off campus to support them with their educational success.
    6. Recommend coursework to meet student and community needs in the employment area they are seeking.
    7. May serve as advisor to student cohorts, maintain relationships with assigned departments on campus, train incoming academic and career coaches on content specific to cohort related areas.
    8. Utilize available and appropriate technology, including Colleague, Navigate, Outlook, etc. to: monitor academic progress of students toward degree and/or certificate completion, identify current and potential academic needs, document ongoing case management activities, and document all pertinent student information and status updates.
    9. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with College staff, other organizations, and the public. Serve on college committees and assist with special projects, as appropriate.
  2. Conduct Assessments (20%)
    1. Conduct Assessments to determine training, educational, career, and personal needs, including reviewing placement, career assessments, work history, and college transcripts, and referring students with barriers to their success to the appropriate resources on and off campus.
    2. Assess students' educational and career goals by taking a holistic approach to understanding their work experience, educational background, personal circumstances, and potential barriers to success. Identify appropriate academic support services and resources to promote student achievement.
    3. Guide students through CCC processes and assist students with getting started steps.
    4. Educate new students by presenting at New Student Advising Sessions.
  3. General Student Support (10 - 20%)
    1. Help students needing requisites and placement by reviewing external and internal transcripts.
    2. May develop and update New Student Advising Session presentation for students and faculty related to transferring, career exploration, choosing a major, planning the next term, how to succeed, and more.
    3. Work with students on Academic Standing (students on alert, warning, or suspension).
    4. Work with students who require a financial aid appeal or extension to develop academic plans that support their educational and career goals.
    5. Use Navigate to document student appointments and drop-in meetings, schedule appointments, and initiate referrals for follow-up services when appropriate to promote student success.
    6. May inform, support and collaborate with faculty advisors in cohort area to ensure all students receive timely and accurate advising for their goals.
    7. May coordinate visits with 4-year college and university partners.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, business, public administration, or related field AND at least -1 year of directly related work experience, including experience working with diverse and underserved populations. Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.
  • Thorough knowledge of college academic programs and procedure, career development principles and practices, registration processes, and relationships between various levels of education and business partners.
  • Strong knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, internet, and email applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to disseminate complex information to small and large groups with proper mechanics in the English language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including successful collaboration, customer service and public speaking.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with enrollment and admissions processes and/or advising and career services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with English language learners.
  • Knowledge of FERPA requirements.
  • Experience working with veteran and/or first-generation college students.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish with experience presenting information to small and large groups in this language.
  • Master's degree in Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • Global Career Development Facilitator Certificate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, standard office equipment, and automobiles.
Regular travel is required between campus locations, other educational institutions, agencies, and businesses, up to several times per week.
