General Summary: 

Supervisors use advanced paramedic training and leadership skills to oversee emergency medical technicians, while maintaining a safe working environment. This job requires extensive medical knowledge and emergency services training, as well as a paramedic certification.

The paramedic supervisor is an extension of the EMT-P and must initially and continually, utilize basic EMT-P level skills on every call he or she is involved in. Therefore the "Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic" job classification duties and responsibilities are adopted into the "Paramedic Supervisor" job classification and specific supervisor level duties will only be presented further.

Essential Functions:
  • Supervise and evaluate all assigned employees.
  • Participate in interviewing potential employees, and employee counseling.
  • Maintain the staffing schedule for your shift or department.
  • Monitor supplies needed for the department.
  • Coordinate required repairs and maintenance for equipment and vehicles in the department.
  • Assist in training of new hires and the orientation process.
  • Monitor safety procedures and protocols for the department.
  • Assist in skill competencies and continuing education, as appropriate.
  • Act as a liaison with local fire and police departments in the field.
  • Assist in the QA process.
  • Assist in annual recertification processes.
  • Complete disciplinary documentation, as necessary.
  • Fill in daily shift openings as well as assist with wheelchair and mental health trips, as necessary.
