The IP Litigation Paralegal plays a crucial role in providing specialized support to clients and attorneys in complex litigation cases. As a member of the IP group's litigation team, the paralegal will manage all aspects of litigation case management, handling a comprehensive range of paralegal tasks from the beginning of a case to its conclusion. The paralegal will exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in all interactions with clients, attorneys, and staff. An annual billing requirement of 1500 hours is expected for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as IP paralegal on complex litigation cases, providing guidance and mentorship to junior paralegals as necessary.

  • Navigate electronic court systems, including the U.S. District Court and the International Trade Commission (ITC), ensuring compliance with local rules and procedures for various courts and government agencies. Demonstrate comprehensive filing knowledge within these jurisdictions.

  • Assist attorneys in all aspects of Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings, including preparing and filing petitions, managing discovery, coordinating with technical experts, and ensuring compliance with USPTO regulations and deadlines.

  • Assist in all aspects of trial preparation and execution, including organizing trial binders, managing evidence, coordinating logistics and providing in-court support to attorneys to ensure efficient and effective trial operations.

  • Assist in the management and review of source code in intellectual property litigation, including organizing, indexing, and maintaining source code repositories, and coordinating with technical experts to ensure accurate and efficient analysis.

  • Provide comprehensive support during depositions, including preparing exhibits, managing transcripts, and coordinating with witnesses and attorneys to ensure seamless proceedings.

  • Coordinate and manage large-scale document collection and production.

  • Implement and utilize systems and procedures for efficient document organization and retrieval, ensuring all case-related documents are saved in the firm's document management system.

  • Draft, review and analyze routine legal documents and conduct legal research.

  • Provide guidance and training to junior paralegals regarding firm and litigation procedures, trial preparation, and best practices.

  • Collaborate with the firm's docketing team to update litigation deadlines within the firm's calendar system and ensure accuracy for all litigation deadlines.

  • Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of documents that have been assigned to you as the IP Litigation Paralegal, in strict adherence to the filing requirements of specific courts and administrative agencies.

  • Cite check according to the blue book, large briefs without supervision and within tight deadlines.

  • Communication with internal team members and external vendors to support discovery, trial, and arbitrations.

  • Electronically distribute all documents relating to a specific case to attorneys and staff while ensuring that documents have been saved into the firm's document management system (iManage).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills

  • A "can do" attitude and initiative to assist on a variety of projects

  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of attorneys, staff, team members and management while providing information with courtesy and tact both verbal and written

  • Ability to compose, proofread and edit (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) routine internal communications

  • Ability to multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision, work under pressure with high-quality results

  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy of work-product

  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills

  • Ability and willingness to work within a team environment and other practice groups throughout the firm as needed

  • Willingness to remain current on industry trends in IP Litigation and the legal profession

  • Ability and willingness to work over 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position, may require irregular hours

  • Ability to travel to provide support in attending to client needs on legal matters

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree; or any combination of experience, education or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.

  • Certificate of completion from a paralegal training program, American Bar Association (ABA) approval preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive IP Litigation experience.
