What you'll be doing...
The Associate Director of Business Strategy is a high-visibility leadership role responsible for securing and expanding Verizon's Public Sector revenue. Sitting within the Strategic Pursuits organization, this leader ensures the foundational health, compliance, and market competitiveness of our public sector contract vehicles (including GSA schedules, IDIQs, GWACs, and state/local cooperative agreements). Rather than chasing net-new standalone accounts, this position focuses on revenue security and contract enablement across both Wireline (WLN) and Wireless (WLS) portfolios. By providing the critical market intelligence, pricing strategies, and compliant product positioning required to win, this role acts as the operational engine supporting our peer Business Development and Capture teams across Federal (FED) and State, Local, and Education (SLED) territories.
You will directly manage a specialized, high-performing team of subject matter experts dedicated to unlocking the Verizon ecosystem for public sector success. Your team includes:
  • Price-to-Win (PTW) Specialists: Experts running data-driven competitive pricing analysis and financial modeling to ensure winning bids.
  • Contract Strategy & Enablement Specialists: Navigators of the complex Verizon internal ecosystem who ensure contract vehicles are healthy, offerings are orderable, and compliance is flawless.
  • Partner Strategy Specialists: Leads focused on cultivating critical relationships with small, minority, women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses to satisfy socioeconomic contracting mandates.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Enablement & Revenue Security
  • Portfolio Safeguarding: Drive strategies that secure and protect existing Year-over-Year WLN and WLS public sector revenue.
  • Verizon Ecosystem Navigation: Oversee the operational execution of contract strategy, ensuring target products meet strict compliance terms, pricing is locked, and solutions are fully orderable within internal systems.
  • Lifecycle Management: Proactively manage product lifecycles on existing contracts-ensuring End-of-Life (EOL) products are smoothly transitioned and modern replacement solutions are seamlessly integrated in compliance with government transition timelines and agency-specific migration mandates
  • Partner Ecosystem Growth: Oversee the partner strategy to identify and embed diverse suppliers into upcoming bids and active contract vehicles, ensuring alignment with public sector requirements.
  • Contract Vehicle Optimization & Modifications: Streamline the contract modification process to rapidly onboard new Verizon technologies and pricing catalogs to active vehicles, eliminating operational friction for field sales teams.

People Leadership & Performance
  • Manage, coach, and elevate a team of highly skilled specialists (PTW, Contract Enablement, Partner Strategy).
  • Assess team performance, foster a culture of high accountability, and provide ongoing professional development and strategic direction.
  • Make key recommendations regarding hiring, advancement, promotions, and status changes within the team.

Critical Cross-Functional Collaboration
This is a highly matrixed leadership position. Success requires seamless, proactive alignment with an extensive network of internal and peer stakeholders:
  • BD & Capture Teams (Peers): Partner closely with the peer SLED (territory-based) and FED (account-based) Business Development and Capture teams to fuel both net-new pursuits and critical contract recompetes.
  • Product & Product Specialists: Serve as the strategic conduit to the Product organization, ensuring Verizon builds and prioritizes the right solutions for the evolving public sector marketplace.
  • Sales & Sales Engineers: Align contract capabilities and technical product offerings with field sales strategies to maximize client execution.
  • Sourcing & Legal: Collaborating to protect Verizon's risk profile, finalize vendor relationships, and guarantee contract compliance.
  • Contracts, Legal, & Compliance: Partner deeply with Verizon's Legal and Contract Administration teams to interpret complex solicitations, mitigate organizational conflict of interest (OCI) risks, and ensure adherence to FAR, DFARS, and state procurement regulations.
  • Proposal Operations: Streamline operational workflows, ensuring past performance libraries, reporting standards, and modern AI proposal tools are optimized for maximum efficiency.
  • The Matrix Navigator: Exceptional ability to forge relationships and drive alignment across disparate teams (Legal, Sourcing, Engineering, Sales) without direct authority.
  • Contractual & Operational Rigor: Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of how public sector contract mechanics, catalog management, and compliance alignment directly impact frontline sales velocity and revenue recognition.
  • Strategic Visionary & Tactical Executor: Able to shift effortlessly from high-level portfolio strategy to the granular nuances of government contract compliance.

What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Requires experience in strategic planning, contract management, business enablement, or capture support within the Telecom, IT, or Government Contracting (GovCon) sectors.
  • Direct people management experience leading highly specialized or technical contributors.
  • Robust working knowledge of public sector procurement frameworks, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), GSA Schedules, and major SLED cooperative purchasing vehicles (e.g., NASPO)
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Deep familiarity with the mechanics of Wireline (WLN) and Wireless (WLS) enterprise portfolios.
  • Proven track record of managing contract lifecycles, catalog orderability, and price-to-win strategies.
