Solar & Storage Design Consultant (Outside Sales)Grass Valley, CAFull Time, Office and Field-Based
Base Salary + Commission
Cal-Solar is looking for a Solar & Storage Design Consultant who can help homeowners make informed decisions about solar, battery storage, energy resilience, and long-term energy independence.
This is a consultative outside sales role built around in-home appointments, field assessments, proposal development, and customer guidance from first conversation through signed agreement. We are looking for someone who can balance technical understanding, customer communication, organization, and follow-through without relying on high-pressure sales tactics.
The right person for this role is comfortable in the field, grounded with customers, attentive to detail, and capable of translating complicated energy conversations into practical next steps people can actually understand.What Youโ€™ll Be DoingYouโ€™ll meet with homeowners throughout our service area to evaluate projects, gather site information, explain system options, and help customers move confidently through the decision-making process.
This role includes:
  • Conducting in-home consultations and site visits
  • Gathering field data, site photos, and equipment information
  • Reviewing electrical infrastructure, roofing conditions, and project feasibility
  • Explaining solar, battery storage, utility rate impacts, and system value clearly and honestly
  • Building and presenting proposals using Aurora and company tools
  • Maintaining accurate notes and project documentation in Zoho CRM and Google Drive
  • Coordinating with Design, Project Management, Operations, and Service teams
  • Managing customer communication and maintaining momentum throughout the sales process
  • Preparing contracts and obtaining signatures
  • Supporting smooth project handoffs after the sale
What Weโ€™re Looking ForWeโ€™re looking for someone who can build trust quickly and communicate with clarity and confidence.
Solar experience is strongly preferred, but weโ€™re also open to people with strong adjacent experience in areas like:
  • Residential electrical
  • HVAC
  • Roofing
  • Home performance
  • Construction project management
  • Technical in-home sales
You should be comfortable learning quickly, staying organized across multiple active projects, and handling both technical and relational conversations professionally.Qualifications
  • Experience in residential solar sales or related technical sales preferred
  • Strong communication and customer relationship skills
  • Comfortable conducting in-home consultations and field assessments
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and digital workflows
  • Aurora experience preferred
  • Ability to maintain a CSLB Home Improvement Salesperson license
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and clean driving record
CompensationCompensation includes a base salary plus commission structure tied to completed projects and overall performance.
Base: $45,000/yr.
Estimated Total Compensation: $90,000 - $150,000/yr.
