Full Time - Food Service Advanced Cook

Starting Wage: $19.50/Hour

Overview:

To prepare and deliver healthy, attractive and delicious soups, salads, entrees and desserts; develop standard recipes which meet Coop food policy and departmental objectives regarding local and organic food sourcing; help meet department goals for sales, margin, labor costs; supervise member workers in food preparation; provide exemplary customer service.

Status:

Full time, $19.50 hourly, flexible schedule including evenings and weekends required.

Job Responsibilities:

Food Preparation

  • Develop and prepare soups, salads and entrees according to specifications with a particular focus on:
    • seasonal, local and organic healthy ingredients and meals
    • catering to a diverse array of dietary preferences including vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and meat options
    • creative use of ingredients to enhance classic menu
    • food costs and use of food products to uphold our commitment to serve high quality products at a competitive price while keeping waste to a minimum
  • Read and follow departmental production sheets correctly
  • Follow recipes, meeting time and quality standards for finished products
  • Know and follow proper rotation, dating and food storage procedures

Customer Service

  • Provide significant attention to customers including a willingness to go above and beyond expectations for all internal and external guests
  • Smile and greet everyone you encounter
  • Maintain awareness of customers throughout the store in order to ensure premier customer experience
  • Maintain a full and attractive grab and go case; maintain a full and attractive hot entrée table and hot soups; make coffees and keep coffee service area clean and full

General

  • Be positive in the performance of all aspects of the job
  • Re-stock key products before they are depleted
  • Take responsibility for knowing the menu and understanding recipes (including: knowing how it tastes, how it looks, how it travels, and what accompaniments are required
  • Recognize and communicate to supervisor the need for adjustments in the production schedule
  • Maintain awareness of co-workers and their activities
  • Work effectively as part of a team; recognize when help is needed and be willing to offer or ask for help
  • Maintain consistency in food preparation while also providing creativity where appropriate
  • Be prompt for scheduled start times and be willing to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary to get the job done
  • Maintain stove and oven in a clean and sanitary condition
  • Promptly advise supervisor of any ordering requirements, equipment needs, or staffing issues
  • Attend all departmental meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
