Lead the Liberty Center YMCA in Box Elder-build community, inspire teams, and shape the future of the Black Hills.
Job Description
The Liberty Center YMCA serves as a gathering place for youth, families, military members, and community residents. Located in the heart of Box Elder, this branch is uniquely positioned to support the rapid growth and energy surrounding Ellsworth Air Force Base and the broader eastern Black Hills region.
As Branch Manager, you will lead programs, people, and partnerships that directly strengthen community connection and quality of life. You will work closely with community leaders, advisory board members, local organizations, and our valued SDEDA/Ellsworth partners to expand opportunities for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

What You'll Do
As the Liberty Center Branch Manager, you will:
  • Lead daily branch operations with excellence, energy, and care
  • Build and grow impactful YMCA programs for youth, families, and adults
  • Foster a welcoming culture where every person feels they belong
  • Develop and support staff and volunteers who are passionate about service
  • Strengthen relationships with community organizations, schools, military families, and local leaders
  • Partner with the Liberty Center YMCA Advisory Board to advance strategic goals
  • Help steward the future growth of YMCA programming in the Box Elder and Ellsworth communities
  • Oversee branch budgeting, fundraising efforts, and operational performance
  • Champion the YMCA mission in every interaction and decision

Qualifications
Have a four-year degree or have a minimum of six years of field-related experience.
Be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
Must have knowledge of and advocate the YMCA mission and vision of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
Knowledge, training, experience, and a strong passion for promoting and advocating YMCA programs are essential.
Have the ability to recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
Must have the ability to work with volunteers and possess strong communication skills.
Have a history of excellence in achieving qualitative and quantitative growth in programs and participants.
Be passionate about the YMCA mission and vision, and must personally advocate and demonstrate the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
Demonstrate solid leadership as demonstrated by a high level of loyalty and respect among those this person leads.
Essential Functions
To develop a continually increasing standard of excellence as directed by the Liberty Center YMCA Advisory Board in consultation with the Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of the Black Hills in the following areas:
Board Development/Operational Management
1. Maintains a diverse advisory board that actively supports the Y's goals and strategic plans.
2. Recruits, selects and develops diverse volunteers for the branch Advisory Board.
3. Clarifies and reinforces the division of roles and responsibilities between the association's Governance Board, staff and general volunteers.
4. Provide and organize all materials needed for Advisory Board meetings.
Membership
1. Develops and directs high-quality member engagement strategies that support branch and association goals for membership either meeting or exceeding annual membership objectives.
Program Development
2. Develop standards of program operation that reflect meeting community needs and furthering the YMCA mission for board approval.
3. Implement, promote, supervise and evaluate programs according to approved standards and do so in such a way that at least 90 percent of program participants consistently rate programs as good to excellent.
4. Establish plans for expansion of programming that supports the Y mission, goals and strategies.
5. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals and strategies.
Staff and Volunteer Development
1. Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and recognize staff and volunteers in such a way that each staff and volunteer meets or exceeds performance standards.
2. Conduct human resource practices in such a way that maintains compliance with legal requirements and YMCA of the Black Hills policies.
3. Maintain staff and volunteer records as required by the YMCA of the Black Hills.
Risk Management
1. Ensure compliance of the Liberty Center YMCA operation with YMCA of the Black Hills risk management policies in such a way that minimizes risk and results in fewer claims each year.
2. Ensure operational compliance with local, state and federal requirements including Praesidium accreditation requirements for youth programming.
Property Management
1. Ensure the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, ground and equipment.
2. Develop and promote a culture of building cleanliness such that at least 90 percent of respondents rate YMCA building cleanliness as good or excellent.
Community Relations/Advocacy
1. Build bridges within the community so that all segments of the community have access to the Y.
2. Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y's impact for all stakeholders by developing positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses and governmental entities.
3. Ensure that accurate information is always available for all inquiries.
4. Serve in leadership roles in local, regional and/or national groups with the purpose of promoting the YMCA movement.
5. Always exhibit positive, character, such as friendliness and courtesy, that is consistent with the YMCA mission. This includes refraining from public activities that are deemed to be contrary to the YMCA mission.
Fiscal Management/Financial Development
1. Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
2. Directs the financial development activities of the branch and develops the annual operating plan of the branch to meet the annual budget.
3. Promote, organize, and supervise the annual campaign, the HERO Fund, and other development activities to meet budget/goal projections.
4. In partnership with the YMCA of the Black Hills finance team and Chief Administrative Officer, ensure the accuracy of records to maintain financial integrity.
Any other Issues that may arise to further the YMCA movement as determined by the Liberty Center YMCA.
