Do you excel at organizing complex work, improving processes, and ensuring high-quality operational outcomes? The Weapons Facility Operations (WFO) Division is seeking Operations Specialist 3 to provide senior-level operational support focused on process ownership, program integration, and operational quality assurance.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that operational and programmatic activities are well-defined, properly documented, compliant, and executed efficiently. You will work across multiple organizations, including High Explosives facilities, DARHT, and WETF Tritium operations-to coordinate deliverables, improve processes, and ensure successful execution of mission-critical work.
As an Operations Specialist 3, you will:
  • Own and manage operational and programmatic processes end-to-end, ensuring deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with requirements.
  • Develop, review, and maintain operational documentation, including procedures, readiness documents, process workflows, and administrative controls.
  • Coordinate planning and execution activities such as scheduling, resource planning, budgeting, procurement support, and tracking deliverables.
  • Lead and support issues management efforts, including assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions, and root cause analysis.
  • Implement and maintain document control and records management systems to ensure compliance and traceability.
  • Interpret and apply DOE orders, Laboratory policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and track training and qualification requirements.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Provide coordination across stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution of work. Prepare reports, briefings, and communications for management.
  • Support readiness activities and integrate requirements into program documentation.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

Operations Integration & Execution
  • Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating complex operational or administrative processes from planning through execution.
  • Ability to oversee multiple deliverables, prioritize work, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Experience with planning and scheduling, resource coordination, budgeting, and performance tracking.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Operational Quality, Compliance & Improvement
  • Advanced experience developing, reviewing, and maintaining procedures, policies, and operational documentation.
  • Knowledge of document control, records management, and quality assurance practices.
  • Experience supporting or leading assessments, investigations, and corrective action processes.
  • Working knowledge of DOE orders, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies, with ability to translate requirements into implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement process improvements.

Communication, Leadership & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to translate complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across organizations and influence outcomes without direct authority.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with LANL systems (Oracle, PDMLink, UTrain, SharePoint).
  • Experience supporting readiness reviews or training programs.
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
