Job description

Summary

A growing commercial mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Service Manager / Operations Manager to lead its commercial service division. This role oversees a small team of service technicians and is responsible for daily operations, technical oversight, customer relationships, and overall service performance. This position is hands-on and best suited for someone who has come up through the field as a Service Technician and has previously run a service department.

This is not a dispatch or coordinator role. The ideal candidate has owned service operations before and understands both the technical and business side of commercial mechanical service.


Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the commercial service department

  • Manage and support a team of service technicians in the field

  • Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and job oversight

  • Review service work scopes, pricing, proposals, and change requests

  • Maintain strong relationships with commercial customers and property managers

  • Schedule and prioritize service work while ensuring quality and responsiveness

  • Monitor department performance, labor efficiency, and job profitability

  • Support hiring, training, and development of service technicians

  • Ensure safety, compliance, and professional standards are maintained

  • Coordinate with ownership and leadership on department goals and growth


Qualifications
  • Background as a commercial mechanical Service Technician

  • Previous experience as a Service Manager, Service Supervisor, or Operations Manager

  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems

  • Experience leading a small to mid-sized service team

  • Comfortable handling customer communication and problem resolution

  • Understanding of service pricing, labor management, and job costing

  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to jump in when needed

  • Organized, accountable, and capable of running day-to-day operations
