Assistant Operations Manager
Pay: $125,000 – $135,000 per year
About the Company

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated, hands-on Assistant Operations Manager to help lead our 24-hour warehouse and distribution operations across three facilities.
Schedule & Locations
This position requires flexibility to support operations across our facilities located in South San Francisco, Oakland, and Oakdale, CA. The Assistant Operations Manager must be available to work onsite, support multiple shifts as needed, and assist with overtime and weekend operations when necessary.
Position Summary
The Assistant Operations Manager supports the Operations Manager in overseeing day-to-day warehouse operations, inventory control, logistics coordination, employee supervision, and safety compliance. This role requires a leader who can balance strategic operational oversight with hands-on warehouse involvement.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Warehouse Operations & Safety
• Oversee daily warehouse operations across multiple facilities.
• Plan and allocate labor, equipment, and operational resources efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and food handling regulations.
• Monitor warehouse productivity and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
• Maintain equipment and ensure warehouse cleanliness and organization standards are consistently met.
Coaching – reviewing with drivers and warehouse personal when incidents or accidents come up. Filling out accident/incident reports. Doing write ups as needed.
Hiring employees/ training new hires/supervisors as needed.
Doing weekly schedules – moving labor around as needed when employees quit, during holiday weeks, vacations, and call outs.
Working with, negotiating, getting quotes from/with vendors for warehouse repairs of doors, docks, HVAC, refrigeration, trucks, trailers, gates, bollards.
Negotiating prices for warehouse supplies such as stretch wrap, new equipment
Negotiating and working with temp services for new employees.
Updating logs as needed.
  1. Inventory Control & Logistics
• Manage inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation processes.
• Maintain strict FIFO product rotation and ensure proper handling of perishable goods.
• Coordinate daily with Sales, Transportation, and Inventory Control teams regarding customer demand, routing, deliveries, and incoming shipments.
• Assist in resolving inventory discrepancies, receiving issues, and shipping delays in a timely manner.
• Utilize warehouse management and inventory systems effectively to support operational goals.
Daily dispatching of drivers, reloads and breakdowns. Working with vendors or finding a vendor on the spot to fix issues. Making decisions on the fly about reloads, moving things around as needed.
Booking trucks – Working with brokers, negotiating rates, understanding the market, holding brokers accountable, finding new brokers, building relationships.
Watching and reviewing routing daily to be more efficient. Working with the sales team when we have issues with delivery times, customer complaints, new customers, delivery hours.
Paying/signing bills for services rendered.
 
  1. Team Leadership & Hands-On Support
• Supervise, coach, and motivate warehouse employees to maintain a productive and accountable work environment.
• Assist with employee training, scheduling, performance management, and operational development.
• Lead by example with a strong work ethic and hands-on approach to daily operations.
• Troubleshoot operational challenges quickly and proactively, focusing on solutions and continuous improvement.
• Operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist with loading/unloading containers and safely lifting 40+ lbs. as needed.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of progressive warehouse operations or distribution management experience.
• Experience supervising warehouse teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid California Driver’s License.
• Ability to reliably commute between South San Francisco, Oakland, and Oakdale facilities.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Flexibility to support a 24-hour operation, including different shifts and overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in food distribution, cold storage, or perishable goods operations.
• Experience working in freezer and cooler environments.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
