JOB TITLE: 

Summer Branding Iron Digital Editor  

JOB PURPOSE: 

To provide overall supervision of the Branding Iron Online publication.

JFNTMP 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Attend weekly meetings with the Supervisor and Staff Writers.
  2. The online editor is required to work in the office no less than 15 hours each week.  The times shall be designated by the online editor, and must be posted and followed.  At least 8 of the 15 hours must be between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.   
  3. The summer online editor is responsible for getting Branding Iron articles and photographs onto the website at least twice weekly. 
  4. In addition to regular, timely updates of stories and photos generated by the writing and photography staff, the online editor shall post related supplemental material with stories and photos. These items should be easy to find and involve a variety of forms of multimedia, including, but not limited to: photo galleries, SoundSlides, audio files, video files, podcasts, etc.
  5. The online editor shall work with the Student Media advertising sales staff to facilitate timely publication and updates of paid advertising sold for the website.
  6. The online editor is responsible for delegating work to any assistants, but is ultimately responsible for making sure the content is available in a timely fashion. 
  7. The online editor is responsible for managing and maintaining the Branding Iron social media accounts. 
  8. Attend Student Media Board meetings as ex-officio member as needed. 
  9. Serve as a direct line to adviser, sales manager, production coordinator, and business manager. 
  10. Serve as a contact person with Communication and Journalism Department.
  11. Superintend the operations of the online production and deadline schedules. 
  12. Other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Full-time student
  2. Minimum 2.5 GPA
  3. Firm grasp of Web design software and techniques.
  4. Basic understanding of audio and video editing.
  5. Newspaper experience, including writing news stories.  
  6. Must be available to start work June 5, 2026

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Some supervisory experience. 
  2. Basic knowledge of what goes into a good newspaper story, as well as other newspaper editorial content.
  3.  Some prior newspaper experience.
  4. Knowledge of AP style or willingness to learn.
