In addition to any subject-specific academic duties, you also help students with general study strategies, methods to improve test taking and academic confidence, and collaborate on short and long-term plans. Specific duties may include interacting with students and parents to identify strengths and weaknesses, determining what the student's academic course load is like, and pointing them to any other services, such as tutoring and after-school help.

What are some common challenges faced by online academic coaches, and how can they be addressed?

Online Academic Coaches often encounter challenges such as engaging students in a virtual environment, managing time across multiple students, and adapting coaching strategies to diverse learning styles. Building strong rapport through regular communication and personalized feedback can help increase student motivation. Utilizing digital tools for organization and implementing flexible coaching techniques tailored to individual needs are effective ways to overcome these challenges and foster student success.

What is an online academic coach?

Online Academic Coaches are professionals who provide students with personalized academic guidance and support through digital platforms. They help learners set goals, develop effective study strategies, manage their time, and overcome challenges in their coursework. Unlike traditional tutors, academic coaches focus on building skills such as organization, motivation, and self-advocacy to promote long-term academic success. They may work with students of all ages, from K-12 to college and adult learners, and often collaborate with educators and families.

Job description

Academic Coach
LaVenture Club | Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County
Part-Time (18-24 hrs/week) | $21.65-$22.97 DOE/DOQ

Not every student connects with learning the same way.

Some need extra support. Some need a different explanation. Others need someone who can help them see that academics are more than assignments, grades, and sitting at a desk.

We're looking for an Academic Coach who can make learning relevant, engaging, and worth exploring.

In this role, you'll work with school-age youth, providing homework support, helping strengthen academic skills, and creating enrichment activities that go beyond traditional book learning. That might mean using STEM challenges, hands-on experiments, technology, problem-solving activities, or real-world projects to help youth build confidence and discover new interests.

This isn't about simply giving students the answers. It's about helping them ask better questions, work through frustration, try new approaches, and recognize what they're capable of achieving.

You'll help youth build academic confidence through engaging activities, homework support, and enrichment opportunities while creating a safe, positive environment where they're encouraged to ask questions, solve problems, and keep learning. You'll also collaborate with Club staff, families, schools, and community partners to help each student succeed.

We're looking for someone who brings creativity, patience, and enthusiasm to every day. Someone who can spark curiosity, encourage youth to think critically, and help them discover that learning can be fun, challenging, and rewarding.

If you believe learning should inspire curiosity, encourage exploration, and help young people discover what they're capable of achieving, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today and help the next generation develop the skills and confidence to succeed-in school and in life.
