NeighborImpact's Head Start and Early Head Start program Overview

NeighborImpact Head Start is a comprehensive early education program serving children and families in Central Oregon. It integrates high-quality pre-kindergarten education with essential services such as health, nutrition, and family advocacy. Operating across multiple sites, NeighborImpact Head Start supports social competence, school readiness, and overall well-being of children from ages three to five.


Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

This is an in-person, on call position. Candidates must reside within Central Oregon.


This role will provide essential, professional translation and interpretation services, bridging communication gaps between children, families, and staff within the Head Start/Early Head Start programs. This role extends to translating/interpreting during enrollments, conferences, family nights, and home visits, ensuring families' cultural nuances are respected and understood. As an on-call professional, the candidate will have opportunities for regular weekly assignments and extended interpretation projects. Flexibility and willingness to travel across various communities, including Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and La Pine, are crucial for this position. 

Requirements

Required: 

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Verbal and written fluency in specified second language and English.
  • Employment or volunteer experience interpreting and translating from English to specified second language and specified second language to English.
  • Must be able to ride a school bus with children for assigned periods of time as needed
  • Required prior to date of hire and throughout employment:
  1. Valid driver's license
  2. Proof of current auto insurance
  3. Current enrollment in the OR Child Care Division-Criminal History Registry
  • Above certifications must be kept current to remain employed. 
  • Access to reliable transportation required.
  • Must have an initial health examination, and a periodic re-examination (as recommended by health care provider) so as to assure that employees do not because of communicable diseases, pose a significant risk to the health or safety of others, that cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation. 

Preferred: 

  • Employment or volunteer experience preferred working with adults in a helping or teaching capacity.
  • Employment or volunteer experience in social services preferred.
  • Current or past Head Start parent preferred.
