They are responsible for configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting user authentication, application integrations, and security policies using Okta. Their role often involves collaborating with other IT teams to ensure secure and efficient access to systems, as well as supporting compliance and user provisioning processes. Okta Analysts play a critical part in safeguarding an organization’s digital assets and streamlining user access across various applications.

Okta Analysts often encounter challenges such as ensuring compatibility between Okta and various third-party applications, managing complex authentication requirements, and coordinating with different teams to gather the necessary technical details. Troubleshooting integration issues can also be time-consuming, especially when dealing with custom or legacy applications. To address these challenges, Okta Analysts typically work closely with application owners, IT security, and support teams to ensure smooth onboarding and maintain secure user access.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Okta Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Okta Analyst, you need expertise in identity and access management (IAM) concepts, Okta administration, and a background in IT or computer science. Familiarity with security protocols (like SAML and OAuth), Okta integration tools, and certifications such as Okta Certified Professional or Administrator are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with stakeholders and address access issues efficiently. These skills ensure secure system access, regulatory compliance, and smooth user experiences within the organization's IT infrastructure.

The Technology, Data, and Intelligence Team
Okta is the leading independent identity provider. The Technology, Data, and Intelligence (TDI) organization is the engine that powers Okta's global workforce, providing the technology and systems that enable our employees to do their best work.
The Staff Product Analyst Opportunity
Okta is seeking a Staff Product Analyst, Workday Payroll to join our People Technology Team. This is a pivotal role dedicated to the product-led optimization of Okta's global Workday platform. Beyond standard configuration, you will lead the end-to-end lifecycle of our payroll systems from strategic discovery and design to global deployment and adoption. You will act as a consultant and architect to our stakeholders in People, Payroll, IT, and Finance teams, ensuring our People Technology suite is a driver of automation and efficiency. If you are passionate about transforming the employee experience through innovative technical products, you'll fit right in.

  • Stakeholder Partnership: Act as a strategic partner to People, Payroll, and Finance leadership to translate complex business needs into scalable product requirements and technical specifications.
  • End-to-End Solution Design: Lead the design and implementation of high-impact integration solutions (using PECI, PICOF, and Studio) that prioritize user experience and operational efficiency.
  • Lifecycle Management: Manage the full product lifecycle for payroll integrations, from initial discovery and requirements gathering to deployment, maintenance, and sunsetting.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Leverage Workday reporting and analytics to monitor system performance, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations for payroll process optimization.
  • Vendor and Platform Management: Oversee technical relationships with third-party vendors (e.g., ADP) to ensure seamless data flows and adherence to service level agreements.
  • Operational Excellence: Champion continuous improvement by analyzing integration failures and proposing design changes that enhance system reliability and minimize manual intervention.
  • Feature Adoption and Training: Drive end-user adoption of new Workday features and integrations through the development of comprehensive documentation, user guides, and training programs.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensure all payroll products strictly adhere to global data privacy requirements and internal security standards.

What you'll bring to the role
  • Payroll Domain Knowledge: Extensive understanding of Workday Payroll objects (GL, Paycodes, Taxes) and global HR business processes.
  • Workday Expertise: 7+ years of experience in Workday Payroll configurations and integrations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong command of REST/SOAP APIs, XML, XSLT, and JSON to guide the development of automated business logic.
  • Analytical Skills: Advanced capability in building custom reports, dashboards, and hubs to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Strategic Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively across global time zones.
  • Problem Solving: Superior ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and design scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Agile Methodology: Experience working in an Agile environment, managing backlogs, and delivering value through iterative cycles.

And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following!
  • Knowledge in other Workday modules such as Extend, Time Tracking and Absence is a plus.
  • Workday Certifications in Payroll or Absence or Time Tracking.
