Job description

Title: Reading Room Assistant - Radiology General - Vassar Brother's Medical Center - Full Time - Flex shifts- Monday - Sunday day, evening, and overnight shifts, 8-hour shifts - 

Summary:

Purpose:  The Reading Room Assistant plays a critical role in supporting Radiologists, Physician Assistants (PAs), Imaging Technologists, and Support Staff Members by ensuring smooth operations within the radiology reading room. This position requires strong communication, organizational, and technical skills to manage administrative tasks, assist with imaging systems, and facilitate timely and accurate patient care.  

Responsibilities:

1. Supports all Reading Room operations. May be assigned to work in a variety of imaging settings across various sites, assisting diverse radiologic clinical workflows to ensure seamless patient care.

2. Provides front-line support in the Reading Room by managing calls, coordinating communication, maintaining an organized environment, supports radiologic and interventional scheduling, handling authorizations/appeals, and proactively resolving workflow issues for expediting imaging reads and procedures.

3. Provides comprehensive support to Radiologists and PAs by retrieving and managing clinical data, reports, images, uploading CDs, scheduling advanced imaging reviews, preparing procedural radiologic and international paperwork, and organizing materials for multidisciplinary conferences, manage real-time OR specimen reviews, and facilitate scheduling tasks like seed localizations, in additional to other administrative duties as needed.

4. Manages imaging workflows and IT systems by handling study transfers in Dynacad, Synapse PACS, other imaging systems, monitoring exam queues, performing basic troubleshooting, ensuring data integrity and labeling of images, verify documentation for accurate interpretation, management of STAT results, relaying critical information for report amendments, preparing consultation paperwork, utilizes EMR to locate all relevant patient history, prepares forms, and any necessary paperwork for patient studies as needed.

5. Coordinates and communicates across multiple departments and sites to support Radiologist and Radiology Department needs, liaise with referring providers.

6. Supports quality and compliance efforts by ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, participating in audits, and managing documentation for accreditation and safety reviews. Oversee all clinical follow-up tracking to include but not limited to monitoring thyroid exams, documenting non-diagnostic recalls, maintaining BI-RADS 4 and 5 logs, coordinating with providers, preparing follow-up reports for care teams.

7. Performs additional tasks to support Radiologists and PAs as needed, including cross-coverage at other imaging sites, assisting with urgent or emergent requests, adapting to evolving clinical workflows, and contributing to special projects or initiatives that enhance departmental efficiency and patient care.

8. Demonstrates ability to deal professionally and efficiently with all levels of management
