Description

Purpose:
Directs and leads total operation of the Environmental Services and Laundry/Linen Departments including establishing policies, procedures, standards and objectives to provide for the highest quality of services which is consistent with the hospital mission, legal and regulatory requirements. Must relate effectively with all levels of hospital organization.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides for the Hospital environment to be maintained in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly fashion through development and implementation of most current cleaning and sanitizing processes, implementing monitoring systems in all areas of the department to provide for productivity and accuracy of tasks assigned.
  • Works with the Infection Prevention to develop and implement policies and procedures to provide for an ongoing hospital infection control program for the safety of patients and staff.
  • Directs routinely, Assistant Managers and Supervisors of Environmental Services and Linen Departments to provide for adequate staffing and productivity.
  • Maintains all documents regarding ongoing training for employees (including orientation and in-services) as required by regulatory agencies or Department/VBMC standards. Select qualified employees for employment according to human resources policy and employee relations guidelines. Monitors employee turnover, overtime and absenteeism for department based on recommendations of Assistant Managers and takes appropriate action to correct underlying problems.
  • Assumes responsibility for fiscal management of department operations to provide for proper utilization of financial resources. Develop department budget according to established procedures and submit by date due. Investigates and suggests alternatives to established budget based on the most cost-effective use of resources in order to improve fiscal management of department operations. Pursues cost savings within area of responsibility.
  • Develops a written plan that identifies measurable quality indicators and a process of collecting, monitoring and correcting conditions measured by these elements. Active member of the Environment of Care Committee and provides the appropriate KPI and annual reports.
  • Maintains and models the organization's values.
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree in a related field or in the area of facilities management or 10 years of experience at a Director/Department head level position at an acute healthcare facility. Flexibility of the education and/or experience requirement noted above may be considered for the right candidate.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
Requires department head experience in healthcare, environmental services or facilities management. Demonstrated leadership and business acumen. Demonstrated knowledge of state-of-the-art cleaning and disinfection processes. Demonstrated knowledge in disposal of infectious and regular waste. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in area of responsibility including employee and patient experience.
