What is nonprofit informatics?

Nonprofit informatics is the application of information technology, data analysis, and information management practices to help nonprofit organizations achieve their missions. This field involves managing and analyzing data on donors, programs, volunteers, and outcomes to improve decision-making and organizational effectiveness. Professionals in nonprofit informatics typically work with databases, CRM systems, data visualization tools, and reporting platforms. Their goal is to enable nonprofits to leverage data and technology for greater impact and efficiency.

How does a nonprofit informatics professional typically collaborate with program staff to improve data-driven decision-making?

Nonprofit Informatics professionals often work closely with program staff to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable insights. This collaboration usually involves conducting training sessions, developing user-friendly reports, and offering ongoing support to ensure accurate data collection and analysis. By fostering open communication and providing technical guidance, informatics professionals help program teams leverage data for evaluating program effectiveness, securing funding, and optimizing resource allocation. This partnership is essential for building a data-informed culture within the organization.
